Mat, Charlotte and Simmone are crowned the winners of The Summit 2024 - as just one of them decides who gets the $536,000 cash prize

Just when the finalists thought they'd conquered The Summit, the Mountain's Keeper threw them one final curveball.

While Mat, Charlotte and Simmone were under the impression that their fellow trekkers would divide the remaining $536,000 prize money like last season, that wasn't the case.

Instead, in a final twist, the first to the yellow duffel bag would nab the power to split the money however they wanted.

Charlotte and Mat got to the bag in a photo finish but in a chivalrous act, Mat handed the then-unknown power to Charlotte.

How would Charlotte share the cash? Would they walk away with an equal share? Would they walk away with a small allowance? Or would they leave with nothing at all?

Find out what happened below:

Mat

As one of the game's strongest and most strategic players, how much money Mat deserved was definitely a debatable topic.

While he helped many along the way he also lead some of the harshest game plays that saw others cut.

When Mat opens his bag to find $100,000, his initial reaction is that he's missing $78,000 – $178k would make it an equal three-way split – but he was quick to remind himself of his worthy opponent.

GRAND FINALE RECAP: A trekker is cut at the final hurdle and another wins the chance to take all the prize money

"Charlotte proved that she's a warrior and she deserves the money, there's no question about it," he said.

"I'm not going to complain.

"I was shocked initially but then I thought about it, my goal was to get to the top and I did it and got paid 100 grand to do it."

Simmone

Simmone surprised herself and others by conquering all her doubts to make it to the mountain peak.

Having endured a rough few years of financial stress, Simmone made her case that the money would be "life-changing" to her.

As she opened the bag, it was revealed that Simmone had won $100,000.

Despite "feeling very grateful" for the "life-changing money" she did receive, Simmone couldn't help but feel a little sting that the money had not been split equally between the three trekkers.

"I was shattered, and I'm still eternally grateful because that money will definitely help but I won't be able to build the shed house that I'd planned to," the 51-year-old told 9Entertainment.

Charlotte

The 12 eliminated trekkers gathered to have their say on how Charlotte should split the prize money.

While some encouraged her to split it evenly others egged her on to "take it all".

But in the end, Charlotte said "that was never going to happen".

She walked away with $336,000, more than double what Mat and Simmone took home.

Although Charlotte said she had some mixed feelings about her decision.

"I did what I thought was fair while also putting myself first, and I hope [Mat and Simmone] can reconcile that," she told 9Entertainment.
