Teal and light purple ribbon next to text: September is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month

September 2024

September is Suicide Awareness Month, with World Suicide Prevention Day falling on Tuesday, September 10th. Globally, someone takes their own life every 40 seconds.

Learning the risk factors and warning signs for suicide can help save lives. So can talking and listening. Many of us are afraid that mentioning suicide may encourage someone to act, but this is a myth. Asking questions and offering support can bring a sense of connection often missing for those at risk.

Since 1989, September has also been recognized as Recovery Month. Of those adults in the United States who have faced a substance use or mental health condition, 7 out of 10 are in recovery. This month. we recognize those who have worked hard to achieve recovery, along with the friends, family, community and recovery workers who help make a return to health possible.

If you are in crisis and need help, our Warmline is open 24/7 at 410-768-5522.
