The SP&PFM Programme is working with the Government of Burkina Faso on a new social protection strategy (2023–27), which will be submitted for government approval in February 2023. Two technical committees were created for the drafting process, with SP&PFM assistance: one to prepare a social protection assessment, to be submitted to the National Council for Social Protection, and the other to monitor the elaboration of the strategy. These committees met in September and October, respectively.

The Programme also initiated a study in October on the extension of social protection to workers in the informal economy. The study gathered evidence to inform the drafting process for the new social protection strategy and thus work towards ensuring the extension of social protection to these workers.
