Zainab Al Mansour, Senior Consultant in our Development, Planning & Urban Design team attended a unique education programme in Rotterdam “This is Tomorrow.” The course covered contemporary urbanism, dealing with the Anthropocene, Superdiversity, and Right to the City. 𝐀𝐧𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐞 The Anthropocene marks significant human impact on Earth, like climate change, It involves exploring and mitigating urban effects of a 2.5°C temperature rise. 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 Superdiversity is the extensive diversity in a population. In Rotterdam, it means understanding complex social dynamics in a majority-minority city. 𝐑𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲 The Right to the City is about residents shaping their urban environment. It promotes inclusive, participatory spaces reflecting community needs. In the course, Rotterdam was used as laboratory for research into issues that are relevant to cities all over the world, looking closely at local urban phenomena, and then zooming out to global tendencies, touching on street culture and global warming; food production and cultural superdiversity, financialisation of housing and alternative energy sources. #WeAreWSP #UrbanDesign #UrbanPlanning #LifeAtWSP
