    The future of the recording industry rests on the impending widespread and globally accessible usage of subscription streaming services. Nearly every digital industry has been affected and the recording industry is no exception. Despite the variety of academic literature that studies the decline of the recording industry, this dissertation aims to provide optimistic reasons for future sustainable growth of the recording industry. The current business climate consists of exponential opportunity, with disruptive businesses leading the industrial transition. During the same period where physical record sales have decreased, digital downloads and subscription-streaming services have increased.

    The major objective of this paper is to discover what the future holds for the recording industry. It will discuss the digitization of products and distribution, statistical revenue comparing various markets, shifting global consumer behaviours, and other trends that relate to the recording industry’s future success. By analysing the history of the recording industry, evaluating existing literature, and comparing it to professional insights retrieved from key informant interviews, this dissertation will assess the real impact of Internet based models. This paper includes several illustrations to assert these impacts.

    This paper retrieves information from articles in online journals, videos, and highly acclaimed global music industry reports surrounding the subjects of the recording industry, technology, disruptive business, and impacts of digitization. By analyzing the past structure of the recording industry and comparing it to the current business climate, the conclusions of this paper will provide future forecasts and recommendations for the industry.
