As of Thursday afternoon, all forecast regions are trending towards a code green finish. Friday will likely look much of the same. Overcast conditions and an increase in environmental moisture owing to Tropical Storm Francine's advancement Northward are expected. These improved conditions should act to curtail any increased levels of surface ozone production. Winds are forecast to be a light breeze from the East to Northeast statewide throughout the day. It is plausible that this wind direction will have the Charlotte urban plume upstream of the Catawba and Upstate monitors, like is the case for Thursday afternoon. In this case, it would be expected that these two areas see higher regional concentrations as a result. A fortunate counterpoint to this however is that these two regions have the opportunity to see rain showers tomorrow that would drive down the readings. A combination of predominantly favorable clean conditions, mostly maritime back sourcing, and the lower sun angle on account of the seasonal progression ought to be enough to limit ground-level ozone concentrations. All forecast regions are projected to peak in code GREEN for Friday to round out the week.
