Austrian Institute for European and Security Policy (AIES) hat dies direkt geteilt
Participating at the European Forum Alpbach is always an inspiring and fulfilling experience. However, this year‘s #EFA24 was even more exceptional for me and here is why: I kicked off my 8-day long stay by attending an in-depth Lab on unravelling Russia's information warfare together with some of the leading European #disinformation experts. Against the background of this year’s Austrian Institute for European and Security Policy (AIES) partnership with the European Forum Alpbach in reporting the Security Track contents, I had the great pleasure to moderate three #security sessions: During the Hike „Risky Business: European Economic (In)Security“ we discussed the security implications of strategic dependencies and #derisking from the policy, industry, and think tank perspective with Sabine E. Herlitschka, Svenja Hahn, Jeromin Zettelmeyer, and Tobias Gehrke. Together with the four distinguished experts Michael Kofman, Franz-Stefan Gady, Lesia Ogryzko, and Lindsay Skoll we analysed the most recent military developments in #Ukraine and reflected on possible future scenarios while stressing that Western support to Ukraine must remain strong. The European Union must increase its investment in #defense and strengthen its defense industry capabilities. This conclusion emerged during our insightful Chat with Antonella Mei-Pochtler, Paweł Kowal, and Dr. Florian Keisinger. Additionally, our two AIES Security Track networking sessions were yet another personal highlight. My AIES colleagues Christoph Schwarz, Nick Nieschalke, and Adam Urosevic and I seized the opportunity to present our dashboard on Chinese foreign policy and our most recent research on Austrian security policy and neutrality - many thanks for your great contribution. Overall, it was the sum of every single conversation what made the #EFA24 so special. Therefore, I would like to warmly thank and congratulate all organisers, especially Feri Thierry, Leopold Schmertzing, Kevin Kaiser, and Annamaria Toth representative for the amazing Alpbach team. Last but certainly not least, many thanks for every meaningful and exciting exchange I had with dear friends and experienced colleagues, amongst others Michael Reiterer, Arnold Kammel, Damita Pressl 🎤, Sebastian Enskat, Raphael J. Spoetta, Nicole Scap, markus müller-schinwald, Saman Nazari, Peter Kreko PhD., Philip Thom, Andreas Stadler, Mary Fitzgerald, Dr. Martin Frick, Nataliya Pryhornytska, Jochen Spangenberg, Tefta Kelmendi, Martin Frick, Anna Pöllmann and many more. #MomentOfTruth
