On July 18, Dieter Hopf, CEO of ANDRITZ HYDRO LTDA. Brazil, and Letícia Tanquini, Health and Safety Manager (HSE), visited the Sobradinho HPP modernization project in Bahia, the company’s largest ongoing project in Brazil with 170 employees. During the visit, Hopf led a daily safety dialogue, emphasizing the importance of workplace safety and health and safety initiatives. The HSE area recently underwent a safety assessment and launched the CUIDE-SE! (‘Take Care of yourself!’) campaign, highlighting safe behaviors. “This visit marks a significant step in ANDRITZ Hydro Brazil’s commitment to safety, following the safety assessment presented in April. The company’s management is fully committed to ensuring a safe and healthy work environment for all its employees, and we will consolidate this safety culture across all operations,” emphasized Hopf. The HSE field team at Sobradinho Site was recently reinforced to ensure achieving the goal of zero accidents. “ANDRITZ Hydro Brazil’s commitment to prioritizing safety is fundamental to the success and sustainability of its projects and the company’s sucess. Pinnapuram PSP, India – The nation's premier fully integrated renewable energy initiative has entered its final phase, marked by a significant milestone achieved in late July 2024. ANDRITZ successfully dry spun the first unit, a testament to the enduring support and collaboration with our esteemed client, Greenko, whose proactive support and engagement is beyond commendation. The unit was spun up to the rated test limit along with the Static Frequency Converter (SFC) and completed the operation in synchronous condenser mode. This momentous event was achieved in the presence of our client and partners. The successful implementation of the dry spinning process with SFC for the initial unit sets the stage for optimizing the commissioning schedule for subsequent units. This achievement potentially establishes a new benchmark for the installation and commissioning timelines of future projects. We are proud to announce that the dry spinning of Unit 1 was accomplished within a remarkable seven-month period from the readiness of the barrel. This success is attributed to numerous cycle time reductions in the pre-assemblies of the guide apparatus, Main Inlet Valve and pressure test, stay rings, and spiral cases. Boras HEP, India: A milestone in India’s clean energy journey In June 2024, a purchase order was secured to supply generating units for the new Boras hydropower project in India. Moreover, ANDRITZ will oversee comprehensive technical services including supervision, installation, and commissioning of these units. This significant contract was entrusted to us by our esteemed client, RVR Projects Pvt. Ltd. The Boras project forms an integral part of the Chinki Boras barrage combined multipurpose project, undertaken by the Narmada Valley Development Authority (NVDA) under the Government of Madhya Pradesh, through an EPC contract. RVR Projects Pvt. Ltd., based in Visakhapatnam in India, has been awarded the EPC contract for this ambitious venture. With the new Boras HEP contract, ANDRITZ remains committed to supporting RVR Projects Pvt. Ltd. in advancing this crucial project. ANDRITZ showed a largely stable business development in the first half of 2024. Compared to last year, revenue decreased slightly, while profitability showed a slight increase, and net income remained stable. Order intake dropped considerably from the high level of last year, which is mainly due to the continued absence of major capital investments by customers in the pulp & paper and metals industries. Kick-off for tunnel construction at the Forbach Pumped Storage Plant On June 27, 2024, the German energy company EnBW invited guests to the ceremonial tunnel groundbreaking ceremony, marking the official start of tunnel and mining work in Forbach, Germany. Representatives from state and local politics, as well as the executing companies, gathered at the Rudolf-Fettweis Plant to celebrate the beginning of a century project for EnBW and the municipality of Forbach. The over one hundred-year-old hydropower plants, Schwarzenbachwerk and Murgwerk, will be replaced by a new cavern power plant. This requires many thousands of cubic meters of granite in the mountain to make room for the modern facilities and create additional volume for the huge water and energy storage facility. ANDRITZ will deliver and install a 50 MW pump turbine along with three Francis turbines (13, 7, and 3 MW). Commissioning is scheduled for the summer of 2027. Successful model acceptance test of Ebensee pumped storage plant ANDRITZ is proud to be a part of the groundbreaking project with Energie AG, which is shaping the sustainable energy future. Their latest project, the Ebensee Pumped Storage Plant, serves as a green battery to balance fluctuations in power generation from wind and solar plants, thereby ensuring supply security. Excess energy is utilized to pump water from the lake Traunsee to a mountain reservoir located 500 meters above, behind the Großer Sonnstein mountain. When needed, the stored water is released to generate clean energy. ANDRITZ is supplying a 170 MW variable-speed pump turbine, the generator, and the associated automation. At a time when global energy demand is rising and the share of variable renewable energy sources is increasing, economic solutions for large-scale energy storage are of crucial importance.
