Info
The CDRC Vienna - The IBA-VIAC Mediation and Negotiation Consensual Dispute Resolution Competition is more than just any other moot court. Established in 2015 in cooperation with the international bar association(IBA) and the Vienna international arbitration centre (VIAC), this event brings together negotiation and mediation enthusiasts from different countries and walks of life to engage with one another and be enriched. Every year, 250 internationals from all over the world gather in Vienna to participate. Every July, 33 international student teams (22 negotiation teams and 11 mediation teams) address an arbitration case, based on the arbitration case of the Willem C. VIS International Commercial Arbitration Moot. The teams are selected based on the individual applicants, not merely the universities. At the event, they are grouped in sessions and assessed and supported by expert judges. The pool of approximately 50 international judges ranges from experts in fields ranging from mediation to negotiation, business to law, from academia to practice, providing holistic feedback for the participants. The competition takes place for one week, including four preliminary rounds, quarter-finals, semi-finals and the grand finale. While this setting may be found in many moot court competitions, CDRC offers more. The comparatively small amount of participants allows the competition not only to maintain a high quality but also established a sense of community, allowing intercultural and intellectual exchange within the participants. Competing students, experts, organisers - at CDRC we are all the same. We can all learn from one another, each in our respective ways. Have we sparked your interest? Check us out on our website: www.cdrcvienna.org Would you like to be part of the event? Stay updated about our applications for teams, experts and volunteers. Are you interested in sponsorship? Feel free to message us - we will get in touch with you as soon as possible.

👉 The opening reception of the IBA-VIAC CDRC Vienna 2024 was a spectacular evening 👈 Filled with smiles, laughter, and a sense of camaraderie, the Opening Reception of the CDRC Vienna - The IBA-VIAC Mediation & Negotiation Competition 2024, sponsored by the CCAMI - Câmara de Conciliação Arbitragem e Mediação Intercultural, showcased the true spirit of the CDRC community, where students, experts, and enthusiasts from around the world gathered to celebrate the start of this prestigious #mediation and #negotiation competition. The atmosphere was electric, with everyone enjoying the chance to connect, share experiences, and build new friendships. It was a wonderful sight to see participants from diverse backgrounds come together, united by their passion for mediation and dispute resolution. The evening was a perfect blend of formalities and fun, with engaging conversations, delightful entertainment, and a warm, welcoming ambiance that set the tone for the days to come. We are grateful for the kind and generous words of welcome by Dr Nikolaus Pitkowitz. President of the Vienna International Arbitral Centre of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber (VIAC), and Fabiola Keramidas, President of our sponsor #CCAMI. Mediation plays a crucial role in the peaceful and amicable resolution of disputes. Unlike traditional litigation and arbitration, which often focuses on the conflict itself, mediation shifts the focus to finding a mutually acceptable solution. This approach not only helps preserve relationships but also fosters a spirit of collaboration and understanding. By emphasizing resolution over dispute, mediation empowers parties to take control of the outcome, leading to more sustainable and satisfying agreements. At the IBA-VIAC CDRC Vienna, we believe in the power of mediation to transform conflicts into opportunities for growth and cooperation. The skills and insights gained during the competition are invaluable, equipping participants with the tools they need to navigate and resolve disputes in their professional and personal lives. The opening reception was a testament to this belief, highlighting the positive impact that mediation can have on individuals and communities. As we moved forward in the competition, we are excited to see how these principles of peaceful resolution will be applied in practice. We are confident that the participants will not only showcase their expertise but also inspire others to embrace mediation as a powerful tool for resolving disputes.
