Today, we celebrate #WorldTheranosticsDay. On this day, we honour the first therapeutic use of radioiodine on a patient by Dr. Saul Hertz at Massachusetts General Hospital in 1941, which marked the birth of theranostics in patient care. Theranostics combines 'therapy' and 'diagnostics' to form a unified approach where one molecular target is used for both diagnosis and treatment. In essence, theranostics embodies a tailored medical treatment strategy, enabling precise identification and subsequent treatment of diseases, such as specific cancer types, through radioligand therapy. As we reflect on the monumental strides made in nuclear medicine and theranostics, we also look forward to a significant upcoming event: the launch of the Erasmus+ Radioligand Therapy (RLT) Academy website. This event is scheduled for April 4 at the European Parliament in Brussels 🇪🇺. Wim Oyen, Chair of the EANM Policy & Regulatory Affairs Council (PRAC), recently discussed the pressing issue of isotope shortages in an interview with the Dutch broadcaster NOS.    During the interview, Wim highlighted Europe's significant reliance on Russia's nuclear industry for the production of certain radioactive drug treatments, particularly those used in prostate cancer therapy.
