We love to hear and read about exciting news such as the recently unveiled a mass transit cable car system in Madagascar. The groundbreaking project aims to ease traffic congestion and provide a greener transportation alternative in the capital city of Antananarivo. Read about this first of its kind project in Africa here: https://shorturl.at/cpnie Such projects are made viable partly due to the availability of electricity which powers innovation and this is what we're all about! By accelerating #energyaccess to underserved and unserved communities, we are making it possible for people to harness the power of electricity and develop innovations that will make a real difference in their countries. As interventions to accelerate energy access continue to pay off, we hope that each African country will develop its own disruptive innovations that align with its unique needs. #FinancingEnergyProsperity #CleanEnergy #Sustainability #SustainableEnergy #minigrid #offgridsolar #energyaccess #SustainableDevelopment #SolarPower #SolarEnergy #SolarPanels

Today, we review the results of a poll we conducted a few weeks ago on facts about #SierraLeone. We asked how many of the statements we had were true, and the correct answer was that all of them were. The Government of Sierra Leone has been making bold reforms in the energy sector that are geared at accelerating clean energy access in the country. The country has ambitious plans to tap into its vast natural resources and increase the #renewableenergy contribution from the current 31% to 80% by 2030. Together with interventions from our partners including Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL), Energicity and the #GoSL, these efforts will help reduce the country’s high dependency on fossil fuel, improve #energyaccess to communities that need it the most thus unlocking numerous opportunities for them not to mention ease the pressure on the environment. How many did you get correct? What other interesting facts about the energy sector in the ‘Lion Mountains’ country do you know? Share them in the comments👇 #FinancingEnergyProsperity #CleanEnergy #Sustainability #SustainableEnergy #minigrid #offgridsolar #energyaccess #SustainableDevelopment #SolarPower #SolarEnergy #SolarPanels

UEF has signed many grant agreements with several developers in five African countries. But do you know what the idea behind the grants is? It is to bridge the project viability and affordability gaps. Let us explain. Many private sector players involved in building mini-grids or deploying standalone systems for productive use often find it difficult to secure the necessary finance required to build projects in rural communities and other far-flung areas because they are not viable. However, with the #UEF funding, the upfront costs are significantly offset which incentivizes investors to build more clean projects. This ultimately helps electrify many communities and contributes towards a greener, #sustainable future. What do you think about this successful approach? #FinancingEnergyProsperity #CleanEnergy #Sustainability #SustainableEnergy #minigrid #offgridsolar #energyaccess #SustainableDevelopment #SolarPower #SolarEnergy #SolarPanels

''It has been nothing short of joy since the start of the solar transmission," said Victoria Fatoma. This is a candid review of the life-changing benefits of our latest Energicity mini-grid in Borup, #SierraLeone. Victoria no longer relies on ice blocks from miles away; she now owns a solar-powered freezer for her convenience store. With @Energicity providing affordable, reliable power, she can boost the profitability of cold drinks and produce, finally producing sustainable income. We support Energicity to help Victoria and thousands of female entrepreneurs like her overcome this major hurdle to economic empowerment. Hear the story in her own words in the #video below 👇 Context: Borup is a small town located in the rural area of the North West Province of #SierraLeone. 🌞5% of Sierra Leone's rural population are electrified; this figure only rises to 35% in urban areas. 🌞 We are on a mission to catalyze Sierra Leone reaching its target of 92% electrification by 2030, by prioritizing rural communities. 🌞 We are in the process of funding 7 more Energicity mini-grids generating 600Kwp to boost productivity and drive socio-economic development #FinancingEnergyProsperity #SolarPower #EconomicEmpowerment #ClimateAction #SierraLeone #EnergyTransition #SDG7 #CleanEnergy #solarpanels #RenewableEnergy #GreenEnergy #minigrids #offgridenergy #empoweringwomen

The curtains on the #Paris2024 Olympics came down on Sunday in a spectacular function and how heartwarming it was to witness the prominence that clean energy received at the games as the energy of the future. Hearty congratulations to the organizers of the international multi-sports event for their efforts to make this year's Olympics green. The organizers had committed to cutting the carbon footprint of the Games in half compared to previous editions which are estimated to have emitted an average of 3.5 million tonnes of CO2. This ambitious goal was envisaged to be achieved through a raft of measures including the use of 100 percent renewable energy in the event's venue, utilizing 95% existing or temporary infrastructure and deploying electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles. Further, the emissions that could not be avoided will be offset through various projects and initiatives that are to be implemented across all continents. These include reforestation and renewable energy initiatives designed to achieve carbon neutrality. The benefits of clean energy in society are evident and it is encouraging to see many organizations embracing it. We hope this becomes the norm going forward. #FinancingEnergyProsperity #CleanEnergy #Sustainability #SustainableEnergy #minigrid #offgridsolar #energyaccess #SustainableDevelopment #SolarPower #SolarEnergy #SolarPanels

A few days ago, we announced the commissioning of our very first mini-grid in the community of Borup, Sierra Leone. The mini-grid now benefits 1,300 people and power households, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and public institutions. ☀ 👩🏫 👨⚕️ The strong commitment demonstrated by the Government of Sierra Leone, local authorities, our grantee Energicity, and the trust of partners has led to the transformation of the community's way of living as we introduced sustainable energy for the first time. We aim to replicate this success across Africa and beyond with our efficient Results-Based Financing (RBF) model, which has proven to be an excellent vehicle to boost the clean energy markets in the countries we operate as we provide a secure mechanism for our funders to invest in socio-economic development. Our second mini-grid will soon be commissioned as we rapidly expand our efforts to accelerate access to clean energy for those in need. 👏 💡 Let's go back in time and watch the highlights of our first commissioning event in Borup. Stay tuned for more updates. ⏲ #FinancingEnergyProsperity #CleanEnergy #Sustainability #SustainableEnergy #minigrid #offgridsolar #energyaccess #SustainableDevelopment #SolarPower #SolarEnergy #SolarPanels The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP), The Rockefeller Foundation, IKEA Foundation, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, Power Africa, Shell Foundation, The Carbon Trust, Good Energies Foundation, Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Africa Minigrid Developers Association (AMDA), Bezos Earth Fund.
