Every organisation will have their own approach to strategic management.  In an advisory board context, The ABF101 Framework™ provides flexibility, enablement and harnessing the powerhouse of expertise to make things happen. Inherently it is purposeful, flexible and agile. Within the ABF101 Framework™, Structure and Discipline and Measurement principles underpin the Advisory Board’s PROCESS section. ⚙ Structure and Discipline: The advisory board structure is clearly outlined with management protocols to establish, manage, and review effectiveness. By taking the time to clearly define the Advisory Board structure it allows for elevated advisory conversations. Meetings are not dominated by process discussions. This allows for efficient operations of the Advisory Board including internal management, preparation from the organisation and the advisory members, and high quality, future-focussed discussions aligned to the organisation’s priorities. A disciplined approach supports the effective implementation of advisory structures within governance systems. With many organisations looking to establish their advisory board for the first time, both the organisation and the advisory board members will benefit from structure and discipline. The ABF101 Framework™ provides a balanced approach to advisory board establishment and facilitation. It recognises the balance necessary for defining a purpose that is unique to the organisation and applying good governance of people and processes. The Advisory Board Centre is pleased to announce five new appointments to the global Best Practice and Ethics Committee. The new members will be joined by six existing representatives, providing a well considered balance of tenure and fresh perspectives. The new committee met this week under the leadership of continuing Chair, Sandra Gamble, and Advisory Board Centre Founder, Louise Broekman, who serves as the representative on the committee for the Global Research Council. The Best Practice and Ethics Advisory Board’s Charter is to independently evaluate feedback of the ABF101 Advisory Board Best Practice Framework™ and the Ethics guidelines for global members of the Advisory Board Centre. Over the last 12 months, the Committee has undertaken a review and endorsement of the third edition of the ABF101 Framework and consultation on the Ethics guidelines and research agenda for the Global Research Council. For the year ahead, the Committee will be exploring the impacts of global advancement of advisory board adoption, evolution of governance systems, stakeholder engagement and ethical impacts of changing regulatory frameworks in areas affecting advisory boards and advisor engagement. Advisory Board Centre CEO, Udo Doring, welcomes the new appointments. “The Best Practice and Ethics Advisory Board is a valuable conduit of the practical application of best practices globally. The insights that the committee members bring, both from their own deep experience and the exposure to a range of cultural, regulatory and operating environments, enhances our ability to be forward thinking and inclusive in our support of our professional members and the organisations they serve.” The Advisory Board Centre welcomes Stephane Benoist, Prof. Abdullah Al-Bargi, Cris Parker, Isabella Huang Loh PBM and Romy McLean as the newly appointed members. They are joined by existing members Sandra Gamble (Chair), Louise Broekman, Michael E. Clarity is the quality of being coherent, intelligible, and transparent. In an advisory board context, clarity of scope allows for targeted focus, value transference and expectation management. Within the ABF101 Framework™, the Clarity of Scope principle underpins the Advisory Board’s PURPOSE. 💡 Clarity of Scope: The advisory board has a clearly articulated purpose and intended impact. While this may seem common sense, when an organisation is pressing forward with new strategies, experiencing a period of change or caught up in the excitement of advisor engagement, there is a danger of assumptions, misalignment, unclear expectations and weak governance. Time, energy and focus may be inadvertently invested into the wrong activities increasing risk and reducing the positive impact of the advisory structure. Many organisations will be implementing a formalised advisory board for the first time. Research from the Advisory Board Centre State of the Market Report found that 88% of organisations sought independent support to gain clarity on what they needed and advisor engagement options. The inherent flexibility of advisory boards makes them an adaptable structure to fit the needs of any organisation. Ensuring that there is clarity of scope grounds the advisory board and provides a strong foundation allowing for impact and risk management aligned with the advisory board’s purpose.
