Netball season is starting up again and so I am back at coaching - watching, listening, thinking, testing and learning. When coaching sports, I am taught to focus on the basics and to take skills down to the most basic level and then build them up from there. For netball, this includes the movement of the body, turning the hips, pumping of the arms to help with speed and explosive movement in change of pace. What are the skills needed for adaptability and agility in the workplace? I like the way Brene Brown talks about calm as a skill and uses the definition of "creating perspective and mindfulness while managing emotional reactivity". For me, calm is a key skill for adaptability in the workplace. What are some others?

If you want to talk more about building organisational change capability, reach out. I am currently planning my course schedule for next year.
Ever played 'classic catches' in the pool? It’s a fun game where one person throws a ball and another dives to catch it. I had a fantastic time playing this with my family over the weekend, and it sparked a thought about delivering and receiving change. In the game, as in change management, the throw (delivery) is important, but the catch (reception) is crucial. No matter how proficient the throw, it's the catch that completes the play. To really build organisational change capability we need to we focus on both sides – ensuring not just a great delivery of change, but also preparing teams to catch. How do you ensure your team is ready to catch the ball of change?

At Agile Sports we believe coaching is the key to improving performance. A key part of improvement is being coachable - this means staying open to the feedback that is received and understanding that feedback comes from a place of care. How do you focus on improvement? What activities do you undertake to improve your game? Share your thoughts below.

At my session at Australasian Change Days Conference this weekend, I shared a conversation canvas to help plan difficult conversations. This canvas includes taking time to think about our own triggers and how to prepare for our own reactions during tough conversations. We typically spend a lot of time looking at others, but not enough time looking at ourself. If you want to beat a tough defense, remember to look at yourself.
