The GoodSAM (Smartphone Activated Medic) app is officially open for registrations!   At the Claremont RSL, Ambulance Tasmania launched the app with support from The Heart Foundation for interested and eligible Tasmanians to register, following a successful month-long pilot.   As you can see, Ambulance Tasmania’s Kylie Kapeller is holding the RSL’s AED which is registered on the app for staff, patrons and surrounding community members to use in an emergency which could help save lives.   GoodSAM is an internationally recognised alerting and dispatching platform that works with ambulance services to enable community responders to provide lifesaving care in cardiac arrest emergencies, prior to ambulance arrival.   GoodSAM also maps publicly accessible AEDs across Tasmania, allowing responders to collect a nearby AED on their way to a cardiac arrest.   More than 200 people experience an out of hospital cardiac arrest in Tasmania every year. Cardiac arrest is often unexpected, and the chance of survival is increased by CPR and/or defibrillation in the first critical minutes.   Interested in becoming a GoodSAM Responder? Ambulance Tasmania launches GoodSAM today! We are excited to announce that Ambulance Tasmania has teamed up with GoodSAM (Smartphone Activated Medic) to keep hearts beating and help improve survival rates of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests across Tasmania. The GoodSAM app is integrated with the Triple Zero (000) system so that when Ambulance Tasmania crews are dispatched, GoodSAM responders located near the cardiac arrest are also notified (based on mobile phone GPS), allowing for CPR and/or defibrillation to start while ambulance crews are on their way. People can also register their Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) in the app as well. Ambulance Tasmania Executive Director of Clinical Services, Tim Makrides PhD, is encouraging Tasmanians to register as GoodSAM responders and to register publicly accessible AEDs. “When someone is in cardiac arrest, every minute without CPR or defibrillation decreases their chance of survival by 10%. “The more registered responders and AEDs we have across Tasmania, the greater the chances of life saving care being on hand when a cardiac arrest occurs,” he said. Want to know more about GoodSAM and becoming a responder? Visit: https://lnkd.in/gc7RhZm3 #GoodSAM #firstresponders #AED #cardiacarrest
