Congratulations to Olaf Rutgrink, who this year was appointed an Associate Director to the board of AMOG Pty Ltd.   A Chartered Professional Engineer (#CPEng of Engineers Australia), Olaf is a principal engineer, and the structural engineering team lead here at AMOG. His 20+ years of experience covers analytical, design, structural, and project engineering, and includes commercial and naval shipbuilding, mining, civil infrastructure, and offshore industries. Olaf started out as a field engineer for #Tenix; working on the #ANZAC Ship Project in the shipyards in Williamstown for the Royal Australian Navy. Since joining AMOG, he has worked on other Defence projects such as mine blast modelling, cradle designs for docking the ANZAC Class frigates, and structural analysis of vessels including landing craft design. More recently, Olaf has been engaged in projects in the #mining sector, including inspections, asset management and independent third-party verification of major assets such as ship loaders, reclaimers, and boom stackers. Throughout his career, Olaf has also contributed to AMOG's R&D projects, including leading a research study for #ACARP, and he has been a team-member working on some of the organisation's legal and expert witness work. If you want to know more about how AMOG can assist with finite element analysis (#FEA), strength and fatigue life assessments, or site inspections and investigations, you can contact Olaf or comment below and request more information. #engineer #structuralengineer #projectengineering #shipbuilding, #civilinfrastructure #offshore

Back in 2014, Stuart Wales (then Head of Marine and Structural Engineering, now AMOG's CTO) headed up a complex project that involved the simulation of a heavy lift involving a 500te gas compression module and an offshore platform in the unforgiving Bass Strait. The modelling and analysis set out to answer the following questions: ⛑ Could the heavy lift be conducted safely? ⚓ Was the selected vessel suitable for the conditions infield? ⏳ How long would the charter last? 💲 Was this the most cost-effective solution? ✅ How could this all be verified? Click below ⬇ to learn more about this project, and to find out whether it was successful. #offshoreengineering #offshore #marineengineering #bassstrait #beyondtheboomtip Thanks also to fellow contributors to this #flashback project and work, including Glenn Swaik, Yik Ting Kee, Kanishka J., Jon Gumley, and Christopher Carra.

Graduate Engineer at AMOG, Graduated Aerospace engineering with minor in AI from Monash in 2022

On the 11th and 12th of July, I had the amazing opportunity to attend the 6th Summit for Space Sustainability in Tokyo. My attendance was facilitated through the SGAC-Brycetech-HEO-SWF Scholarship, and I would firstly like to thank the Space Generation Advisory Council, BryceTech, HEO and the Secure World Foundation for providing me with this opportunity. The summit consisted of a series of panel discussions, keynote presentations and spotlight talks on the many facets which make up space sustainability. The various expert presentations were interspersed with a flurry of regular networking sessions for the attendees. As a young professional, these networking sessions provided an opportunity to speak to industry experts and representatives. One notable learning from this summit for me was how multifaceted space sustainability is as a subject area. Prior to attending this summit, I was relatively familiar with the technical engineering challenges surrounding space sustainability and specifically space debris remediation. What this summit showcased was a holistic view of space sustainability and its extension beyond simply space debris remediation into subject areas like space situation awareness. Additionally, I learned about the various legal, political and geopolitical issues surrounding achieving space sustainability. Furthermore, I was invited to a young professional mentoring session on the morning of the second day. This provided an opportunity to speak with expert mentors in small groups to get individualised advice. I would like to specially thank the mentors for taking the time to provide advice to young professionals. Finally, thanks to the organisers and all the staff involved in making this summit incredibly interesting and well run. Also, Miraikan and Tokyo was an incredible location for this summit. I am looking forward to future summits and related conferences. Just as sustainability is crucial for preserving our environment on Earth, space sustainability is crucial for ensuring equal access to space for current and future generations because space is the common heritage of humankind.

The AMOG team of Clare Thomas, James M., and Patrick Grocott declared last night's Women in STEM #PinkRover Campaign event was one of the best panels they have ever attended. 🖥 ⚙ 🔬 🔭 ⚗ 📡 🚀 The theme was Human-Machine Interaction and Augmented Reality: Exploring the Intersection of Engineering and Psychology. Two hours of great technical discussions covered topics such as human-machine interaction, and the use of AI (such as large language models) in manufacturing, automation, and robotics. Thank you to panel members Alexandra McGrath, Prof Dana Kulic, Dr Elizabeth Zavitz, Louisa De Vries, 🇦🇺 Nicci Rossouw, and Nikita Le Messurier for your amazing discussion points, Amy Gledden for opening, and to Parmis Hassani (CEO of Nova Rover, and chair of last night's panel) for the professional and insightful questions. The evening was very well attended by university students (including the student teams at Monash), industry, and even some high school students, and we look forward to continuing to attend and support future events. The AMOG team capped off the evening chatting with attendees at our stand. For those interested, we have just opened applications for 2024-25 Engineering Summer Vacation placements (both Clare and Patrick started out at AMOG in #SummerVac positions) and you can apply via our new careers portal at https://lnkd.in/gT89hksn #novarover #monashnovarover #amog #ai #womeninstem
