At Anglicare Victoria, we work with children and families to build better tomorrows. We work because we know that, with the right support, people can achieve their goals. For some, this means keeping the family together in tough times. For others, it’s as straightforward as finding a way to pay the bills. And sometimes, it’s more than that. When the challenges our families face are too much to overcome alone, we’re there to provide practical, hands-on support. We offer children, young people and families expert help to resolve differences, build better relationships and find a place to belong. We work to build better tomorrows. We work for better.

Here’s AV’s very own Jo Farrelly presenting at the National Kinship, Permanent & Foster Care Conference 2024, where she shared insights on the groundbreaking Loddon Care Hub. Originally piloted in the Loddon region and now established as an ongoing initiative, the Care Hub program is a testament to the power of collaboration and the effectiveness of multidisciplinary approaches to care. The Loddon Care Hub is an innovative program brings together a consortium of partners, including Bendigo Community Health Services, Bendigo District Aboriginal Cooperative, NJERNDA ABORIGINAL CORPORATION, Berry Street, The Salvation Army Australia, Bendigo YSAS, and Anglicare Victoria, along with the Victorian Department of Families, Fairness & Housing. By wrapping around families with early and intensive supports, this program is designed to stabilise care arrangements and promote reunification for children and young people entering care. The program’s holistic approach integrates placement options, therapeutic and cultural support, family outreach services, and mental health and AOD support. With an emphasis on early assessment and coordinated planning, the Loddon Care Hub aims to minimise the time children and young people spend in care and maximise their chances of successful reunification with their families. We’re incredibly proud of the work our team has accomplished over the past three years, which has led to the Loddon Care Hub being shortlisted for the Victoria Protecting Children’s Awards. This recognition underscores the dedication and impact of our team and partners in transforming the care landscape in Victoria. We invite you to learn more about the Loddon Care Hub and how this model is shaping the future of care for vulnerable children and families in our community. If you're passionate about making a difference and interested in joining our team, now is the perfect time to get involved in this meaningful work. https://shorturl.at/w759F #LoddonCareHub #FosterCare #VictoriaProtectingChildrenAwards #CareerOpportunities

We're proud to announce the launch of the Family Law & Young People partnership between AV’s TRAK Forward program, Inner East and Eastern Community Legal Centre. The project focuses on providing information to young people impacted by the family law system in Victoria. For example, young people learn what to expect and the steps they’ll go through if they need to appear in court. The project team also developed a suite of resources, such as brochures and short videos covering a range of topics that help young people understand their rights and responsibilities when accessing support services. The resources also address family violence. TRAK Forward is a family violence therapeutic intervention service for adult and child victim survivors with a focus on recovery, healing and safety. The TRAK Forward team ensures their work with clients is informed by their histories of trauma and family violence, as they help them understand the legal system better. This is a great effort in building lasting partnerships that support those who lack knowledge and guidance on navigating the family law system. Thanks to Agnico Eagle Mines Limited's continued support, the Keep in Touch (KIT) Project will continue providing essential mental health outreach to young people across Central Victoria. Our youth champions, with their lived experience and knowledge, are at the heart of KIT’s success, guiding the project and fostering connections with those who need it most. If you’re a practitioner or service provider in the region and would like KIT to visit your community or school, reach out to us at [email protected]. Last week was Homelessness Week, an opportunity to shine a light on a challenging problem that affects tens of thousands of families, children and individuals every night across Victoria. Anglicare Victoria is one of the organisations working with governments and the community to try and end homelessness. On Thursday 8 August, we partnered with NJERNDA ABORIGINAL CORPORATION to put on a Homelessness Week event in Echuca in the north of the state. The event helped to raise community awareness of the solutions to tackle homelessness and educate people on how to make a difference. A barbecue and hot soup was provided on the day for those in need. Our Regional Director Michael Oerlemans spoke at the event, talking about the lack of affordable housing in the Echuca Region. This is due to factors such as its popularity as a tourist destination – with many long-term rentals being converted to Airbnb and holiday letting – as well as the lasting impact of the floods and other factors like mental health and family violence. Over the last year AV’s Echuca team provided direct support to about 300 people from as young as 16 to those in their 80s, who were either experiencing homelessness or at risk of losing their home. We also helped a further 300 people with information, advice or referrals to help them keep a roof over their heads. We believe everyone deserves to live in a safe, secure and affordable home. And we will do everything we can to make this happen for the people we work with. AV’s Echuca team looks forward to collaborating further with Njernda, the Campaspe Shire Council, Victorian Department of Families, Fairness & Housing, Victoria Police, Haven Home Safe and other key stakeholders. Thanks to Njernda for hosting the event and the opportunity to work together for a benefit of the local community. See you next year! #HomelessnessWeek2024

We're proud to be sponsoring and exhibiting at the National Kinship, Permanent & Foster Care Conference 2024 (National Children's Center (NCC)), an event that acknowledges and celebrates the invaluable contributions of carers across Australia. This conference serves as an essential platform for fostering dialogue, sharing insights, and advancing our collective understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities within the realm of out-of-home care. The role of carers is fundamental to the well-being and development of children and young people in care. Their unwavering dedication and resilience are nothing short of amazing, often going unrecognised in the broader social narrative. At this conference, we aim to bring their stories, their challenges, and their triumphs to the forefront, ensuring that the voices of those who care for some of the most vulnerable members of our society are heard loud and clear. As an organisation, we are committed to supporting the needs of carers and the children and young people in their care. Our sponsorship of this conference is just one of the many ways we are working to make a difference in the lives of these individuals and the communities they are part of. #NCC2024 #KinshipCare #OutOfHomeCare #FosterCare
