Liberal and Labor are working together to keep minor parties out. They do so by introducing electoral laws they themselves are exempt from. "If you thought the NACC deciding not to investigate Robodebt was, um, “disappointing”, the NACC walking away from the Coalition’s blatant corruption of massive grant schemes is another whole level of failure." What is the point of a corruption commission that doesn't investigate corruption? At which point does this become a feature, rather than a bug? #auspol #NACC https://lnkd.in/giK5Cdy3

According to the invasive species council, "Escaped garden plants have already contributed to at least four Australian extinctions, and are costing the agriculture industry over $4.3 billion to manage each year." We have to get more serious about controlling invasive plants and animals if we hope to retain our unique landscape. One thing we can do is ensure companies such as Bunnings are not selling seeds and seedlings of plants that can get out of hand in the wild. An approach we consider to be appropriate for invasive animals such as pigs involves the creation of a wild meat industry in regional centres. Talk to us about our research and policy specifics. We would also like to hear your ideas for controlling invasive species. talk with us now!

"‘Horrifying’: Alarm over NSW’s child protection failures" Headlines like this have been in our newspapers regularly, all the way back to the '90's. It's like no one cares to make the necessary changes. We do... Those changes are: • Increase the childcare subsidy to support families and reduce the stresses at home that can lead to poor outcomes for kids. • Better recognise, act upon and therefore prevent, the circumstances that lead to children being forced from their homes and parents. • Radically overhaul the care facilities and carer situation to prevent children who are in the care system being exposed to the sort of traumas and risks they are in today's system. • Increase our capacity to handle the quantity and complexity of cases while improving permanence and stability for kids in long term care. Do you have some thoughts to add? Talk to us. https://lnkd.in/g-j5AGT8

"'What it did demonstrate...is that electric vehicles can be used in the kind of way that they can respond to a shortage in the grid, be switched on almost intravenously to start providing back into the grid...'" #auspol #ElectricCars https://lnkd.in/g9QZnEyU

It's time to address the whale in the room: We form our opinions in two ways. From our media and from our 'tribe'. Our people. If information contradicts either, we find it incredibly difficult to accept. People with a financial interest in certain areas of Australian life - The energy industry for example - know this and take advantage of it. The Australian Democrats intend to improve access to factual information, without bias. This is something we believe that we need more of. How do you think we can improve access to facts in media? We would like to know your thoughts. https://lnkd.in/g4DUewcu
