The science is crystal clear – intensive salmon farming is the ONLY near-certain "catastrophic" threat to the estimated 40-120 adult Maugean skates remaining in their only home, Macquarie Harbour [1,2]. Our shark scientist, Dr Leonardo Guida, goes in to bat for the science, the scientists at IMAS and CSIRO who are working hard to save the skate, and expresses the urgency for Tanya Plibersek to honour the Australian government's commitment of 'no new extinctions' by ceasing intensive salmon farming in Macquarie Harbour under our nature laws. The time for drilling next to coral reefs is over! Help save Scott Reef: https://bit.ly/4fQwUye 👈 The WA environmental watchdog has raised concerns indicating that the potential impacts on Scott Reef from Woodside's Browse gas proposal are unacceptable. 🐳🐢 Although lesser known, Scott Reef is one of the most spectacular and important coral reefs in Australia. This flourishing marine ecosystem off the north-west coast of WA supports hundreds of species of ocean wildlife, including whales, dolphins, turtles, tropical fish, sea birds and corals. Woodside is currently proposing one of Australia's biggest and dirtiest carbon polluting gas projects around Scott Reef. 🏭 We have joined with other leading conservation groups in calling on the WA and federal governments to respect the independent scientific advice and expert opinion.
