  • We are very excited to see the opinion piece from FOODiQ Global published this morning in the Nutritional Epidemiology section of the highly influential scientific publication, Frontiers in Nutrition. This open access article: Mushrooms: a food-based solution to vitamin D deficiency to include in dietary guidelines, is a phenomenal crescendo to an Australian Mushroom industry funded research project, facilitated by the collective FOODiQ Global team. The article is an incredibly valuable reference which will help to shape scientific discourse on vitamin D and mushrooms, and provides a scientific basis for the proposition of mushrooms to be separated from vegetables in Australian and international dietary guidelines. We encourage you to read the modelling work included in the paper, which is truly eye-opening, and will help to substantiate public health messages and recommendation for a mushroom serving size (75g or three white mushroom cups) and frequency, such as '4 serves per week'. Thank you to Flávia Fayet-Moore, Carlene Starck, PhD, Tim Cassettari, Jutta Wright, Peter Petocz and Dr Emma Beckett of FOODiQ Global for your dedication to this project. Your collective passion for the unique health and nutritional benefits of mushrooms is palpable! Read the published piece here: https://lnkd.in/gfzadAay -------------------- This research project was funded by Hort Innovation using the mushroom research and development levy paid by Australian mushroom growers, and funds from the Australian Government.

  • As part of our recent PR campaign informing Australians that 'Consuming around three sun-exposed, store-bought mushrooms, four times a week, exceeds the vitamin D requirements of all Aussie adults,' we interviewed Chris Tolson General Manager, Premier Mushrooms, who shared some fascinating facts about the mighty mushroom. Did you know that Mushrooms are always in season and unlike plants, do not need sunlight to grow, and can be sustainably farmed? According to Chris, Mushrooms are the food of the future. They are grown on limited land areas, indoors, stacked like bunk beds, in high energy-efficient rooms. They’re a super nutritious and sustainable food source. “Vitamin D mushrooms are available all year round, are in constant supply, and warrant consideration as a food-based solution to addressing Australians’ adults low vitamin D levels,” Mr Tolson said. Watch the video below and see what else Chris has to say about these nutritional powerhouses. 👇
