Being prepared can make an emergency less stressful, give you more control, and reduce the impact on you and those you love. Next week, during our EmergencyRedi Week, we’re encouraging all Australians to take action to protect their families. Thanks to the support of our partner, Australia Post, over 3 million households will receive a ‘Prepare Postcard’ with key tips to help them get ready. You can also test your preparedness with our Disaster Preparedness Quiz. See how well you know how to prepare, respond, and recover from disasters. Last week, Australian Red Cross was proud to play a role in the 2024 Australian Institute for Disaster Resilience Conference, contributing to this year’s theme, ‘Maintaining Momentum: Driving Systemic Change to Create a More Resilient Future,’ by highlighting important discussions around resilience and collaboration. Drawing on 110 years of community resilience in Australia, Australian Red Cross helped shape conversations through panel discussions alongside experts from Australian Institute for Disaster Resilience and UNSW. Together, we explored what strengthens resilience before, during, and after disasters, and how partnerships can create lasting, powerful outcomes. The conference reinforced the importance of collaboration, community resilience, and social capital in building a more resilient future. #AIDR #Resilience #Collaboration #ADRC24 #AFAC24

For decades, we have worked with Qantas to support Australians in times of need. Today, we're excited to announce a new chapter of support with a three-year partnership. This partnership will enable our people to travel nationwide for humanitarian work, significantly reducing costs and enabling faster responses to communities in crisis. The funding will help us to continue our focus on delivering services well into the future by funding the recruitment and training of 750 new Australian Red Cross volunteers across the country. We look forward to continuing our work together to support Australian communities. Find out more: https://lnkd.in/gycr4Zeb

People on temporary visas can experience high degrees of vulnerability if they fall on hard times. That’s why Australian Red Cross delivers the Safety Net Program. This program is designed to help temporary visa holders, people seeking asylum and people with an uncertain visa status meet their basic needs, such as food, medicine, and shelter, during times of financial hardship. This week, Australian Red Cross received a generous grant of almost $440,000 to its Safety Net Program in WA, presented by Hon. Ayor Makur Chuot MLC on behalf of donor Lotterywest. Thank you to all those who support us to continue providing essential assistance to those in need. To learn more about the program visit, https://lnkd.in/gtBMSzmz

Last week, we celebrated our 110-year anniversary with events across the country. In Sydney, we kicked off the celebrations by bringing our people, partners, and government together at a breakfast generously sponsored by our partner, NRMA Insurance, with keynote speakers Minister Jihad Dib and Shadow Minister Gurmesh Singh. Later that week, members of the Red Cross Collective, a network made up of long-standing partner organisations who support our work, came together to celebrate, and share insights on our collective action to amplify humanitarian work across Australia. We would like to thank our partners for their invaluable support, for joining us in marking this milestone and for continuing to support our vital work in communities across the country.
