The Australian Sports Foundation is thrilled to announce the appointment of Sue Hunt AM as our new CEO.      With extensive experience in the not-for-profit sector, including her most recent role as CEO of the Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation, Sue is ready to bring her strategic vision and passion for community impact to Australian sport.     As she steps into her role on September 16, 2024, Sue will focus on enhancing philanthropic support for community and elite sports, ensuring sport continues to foster wellbeing and connection across the nation.     We’d also like to extend our sincere thanks to Patrick Walker for his exceptional leadership over the past decade. With the Paralympics starting later this week, the Australian Government has announced that they will match the medal incentive bonus for our Para-athletes competing in Paris.   This support comes at a crucial time, as last year our research revealed that 58% of elite athletes with a disability reported that their financial position had worsened in the year prior. This boost will help our Para-athletes focus on their performance, knowing their hard work is being recognised and supported as they represent Australia on the global stage. Vale Sir Donald Trescowthick   Today, we reflect on the legacy of Sir Donald Trescowthick, whose vision and dedication laid the foundations for tax-deductible donations to sport with the Australian Sports Foundation. This pioneering move not only benefited clubs like Geelong Cats but paved the way for all sports across Australia.   As one of our founding Board members, alongside luminaries such as Kerry Packer and Kevan Gosper, Sir Donald played a crucial role in shaping the aspirations of the ASF. Our athletes are giving everything they’ve got - on and off the field.   Olympic gold medalist, Natalie Cook OAM OLY worries that the financial pressures facing Australia’s athletes could impact our performance at Brisbane 2032, making it difficult to replicate the success we saw in Paris.   As our Chief Partnerships Officer, Ryan Holloway says, “The misconception around sport is that athletes are very highly paid…but the fact is, they are the less than 1 per cent.” In reality, many are struggling just to make ends meet, juggling jobs with training and relying on support from family and friends.   Read more: https://lnkd.in/gqDJDDiY
