Many of us may have gone through a similar experience, having felt like we’re in our own home rather than a place of hospitality. In fact last year we wrote about our experience with a cafe and the fact that they had to close for not having staff to seat us and another to cook meals for patrons. In part staff shortages are an issue. However, some of it, in my opinion, may lie with the businesses themselves. In speaking with many business owners, they are always on the lookout for experienced workers. Unfortunately, to some extent, they may be hard to find. Luckily there are many people wanting to enter the workforce and give hospitality a go. I guess my question is, and I understand the risks associated with doing so, but is there an opportunity here to think outside the box and bite the bullet with someone who may not have the experience desired? Are there other qualities and experience that could be transferred? Also, is there a lack of use of digital tools, like Baristar for example, to hire people within the broader community? There seems to be a hesitation to take on digital means or even explore the world of gig workers to complete tasks which may only need a short working timeframe. There could be more than meets the eye here with getting people into hospitality jobs. Thanks Carina Stathis for the article and bringing the concerns of patrons to light! #hospitality #gigworker
