“Baseball in general has taught me a lot about myself, but the college experience has taught me everything I know. From how to cook…sort of…to the non-stop competition and fight for a team. It’s a constant battle for playing time so you can’t get complacent." There are twelve college players on Australia’s Under 23 World Cup team. They all left Australia in pursuit of a dream. Now they return to the national team not just better baseball players, but better people. They have to bond together for next week's U23 World Cup in China. The college experience is so important when it comes to Australian baseball development. Meet and hear from them all ahead of next week’s Under 23 World Cup here: https://lnkd.in/gwfJP95x

This is Liam Hendriks. He is one of the most remarkable Australian athletes. When he pitches next month for the Boston Red Sox, he will officially play in his 14th MLB season. No Australian in the modern day has ever played in more. In 2023 he overcame cancer. A couple months later, he had a severe elbow injury that required Tommy John Surgery and stopped him from throwing for over a year. He beat that too. Now, he's currently rehabbing in the minor leagues ahead of an anticipated September 6 return. We caught up with Liam before a game in Boston and he is just as Australian as ever. As Eric Balnar writes, Liam makes a conscious effort to connect Australians to feel at home in the midst of his 18th professional season abroad. Australian baseball player Travis Bazzana could be selected first overall in the 2024 MLB Draft on Monday morning. This is significant. Of all the 600 prospects who will be selected by an MLB franchise, a kid from Australia is expected to go in the top few picks. He's currently rated the top prospect by MLB.com. No Australian has been selected above the third round. You can read about the Australian baseball journey, and have a read of several mainstream media stories, at this link: https://lnkd.in/gM92HFQA From his tee-ball roots at Ku-Ring-Gai Stealers, to breaking records at Oregon State, we are so proud. Best of luck for Monday, Travis! We'll be watching.
