💡 How to make a decision on a job offer that you WON'T regret💡 Charlotte Turnbull is a Senior Consultant in our Brisbane team, and has extensive experience in helping lawyers through tough decisions. Charlotte has put together her top 5 tips to ensure you’re making the right choices when it comes to the next stage in your career... “It can be a hard decision navigating one offer, let alone competing offers and counteroffers from your current employer. I coach lawyers through these decisions every day, and there is a lot to weigh up. At the end of the day, the decision must be an educated one. Look at your career from a bird's eye view - does this opportunity take you closer to where you want to be? Equally, does this role alleviate all (or at least some) of the pain points you are experiencing in your current role? Here are 5 critical considerations to take into account when making these decisions: 1️⃣ THE TOTAL PACKAGE  Assess more than just the salary. Scrutinise the entire compensation package, considering bonuses, benefits, and perks. Additionally, understand how pay increases are managed and what targets you need to meet to achieve an increase year on year. Understand the long-term financial impact on your lifestyle and well-being. 2️⃣ LONG-TERM CAREER ADVANCEMENT  Look beyond the current role. Evaluate growth potential, opportunities for skill development, and alignment with your long-term career goals. Investigate the company's commitment to employee progression and promotions. 3️⃣ CULTURAL FIT  Dive into the company's culture and values. Ensure they resonate with your own principles. Consider the work environment, team dynamics, and the organisation's approach to work-life balance. 4️⃣ THE DAY-TO-DAY WORK  Analyse the day-to-day responsibilities of the role. Ensure they align with your strengths, interests, and career objectives. Seek clarity on expectations for both immediate tasks and long-term projects. Is this where you want to grow your career? 5️⃣ COMPANY STANDING & REPUTATION  Consider how the company's standing, reputation and position in the market will impact your professional growth and future opportunities. Will this company be looked at favourably? For example, joining a highly regarded Top-Tier and International law firm will not only see you working on market-leading matters nationally but will open doors for you internationally as well. When managing processes for candidates, we discuss these factors with you each step of the way so that you can feel confident that you are armed with the information you need to make the right call.” It’s important to make sure you're getting the right advice. 💡 RECRUITER INSIGHTS💡 "What is the market like following the salary review period?" Lawyers and law firms alike have a genuine curiosity for what is happening with their competitors. James Andrew has put together the top 3 legal market insights he has observed in the past month... “1. Large discrepancies between lawyers of comparable seniority at the same firm (even the same team). Some practices have been rewarding their "star performers" with salary packages well above the cohort as a retention strategy. 2. Our candidates are more open to engaging in multiple interview processes to ensure they are being thorough with their search and ultimately securing the best offer (from a financial, cultural and progression perspective). 3. Activity and movement is high. Every day we are fielding countless inbound calls from candidates who are targeting their next move. At the same time we are experiencing a significant increase in newly created vacancies from our clients which results in opportunities for those 'active' in the market. On a global level the legal market continues to show positive signs as new roles and mandates roll through every day. We expect this trend to continue for the months ahead as FY24/25 has made a positive start thus far.” Wanting to take the next step in your career journey? Wanting personalised advice on the opportunities available to you right now? Reach out to James Andrew or another member of the Beacon Legal team for a confidential chat.

ATTENTION LONDON LAWYERS... While the Australian Beacon Legal teams have been battling a freezing Aussie Winter, Beacon Legal’s London team have been working hard through the heat! Consultant, Aisha Lawal, has put together her thoughts on why this time of year is perfect for London lawyers looking to take the next step in their career... “Summer is more than just a season for vacations; it's a strategic time to explore new career opportunities. Here’s why: 𝗛𝗶𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗲𝘀: Many law firms and legal departments experience a slower pace in the summer, leading them to focus on hiring and building their teams for the busy fall season. 𝗙𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: The summer slowdown offers more flexibility for scheduling interviews and dedicating time to your job search. 𝗟𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: With many lawyers taking time off, there’s often less competition for open positions. This can give you an edge when applying and interviewing. 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗿𝘂𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿: Leverage the slower pace to meet with your recruiter. It's a great time to discuss your career goals, market trends, and potential opportunities that may arise in the near future." To find out how you can maximise the summer market, get in touch with Aisha Lawal, or another member of our Beacon Legal London team.
