About us
BlaQ Aboriginal Corporation was established as a collective response to the identified need for strengthened visibility of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander LGBTQ+ community. We aim to foster pathways that provide informed and authentic representation, that positively impacts the social and emotional wellbeing of our people. Through a network of sharing, support, and connection we will elevate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander LGBTQ+ mob from across the country in a safe and inclusive space of belonging that prioritises and reframes us as central to the conversation. We know our community is vibrant and alive with extraordinary people overcoming an onslaught of barriers to achieve and lead in expert industries, pioneering for future generations and now. We also know, too often our LGBTQ+ mob are slipping through the cracks and we want to change that. BlaQ is working with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander LGBTQ+ toward a future where all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander gay, lesbian, bisexual, trans, sistergirls, brotherboys, queer and non-binary them stars are valued and safe in all aspects of society. Our community has always been here, existing in the kinship structures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture since time immemorial. BlaQ Aboriginal Corporation is currently working with Nous Group and the NSW Department of Customer Service to measure digital inclusion amongst First Nations people in NSW and develop a roadmap to support progress towards Closing the Gap Target 17 – equal levels of Digital Inclusion by 2026. We are asking First Nations people living in NSW to be involved in a survey to measure Digital Inclusion levels across NSW. This will help to measure and take action to improve Digital Inclusion. The survey takes about 20 minutes to complete and can be accessed via the link below. Celebrating Mabo Day “What is on the land, what is below the land, what is in the sea and what is under sea belongs to my people” – Mr Eddie Koiki Mabo Today, we honour Eddie Koiki Mabo and his tireless fight for Indigenous land rights in Australia. On June 3, 1992, the landmark High Court decision recognised the Meriam people's traditional land rights, overturning the Terra Nullius doctrine.
