We’ve made a splash in the Melbourne Airport Business Park 💦 BMD Urban has built essential stormwater drainage infrastructure to service new developments in the expansive industrial hub. We upgraded the main stormwater retarding basin to maximise its detention capacity. Featuring two bio-retention basins and a 5000m3 capacity sediment pond, it is now capable of withstanding a 1 in 100-year rain event. The project optimised the use of site sourced rock in the retarding basin upgrade, protecting the waterway banks from erosion and slowing down water flow. This approach reduced disposal and quarry imports, improving efficiency and aligning with the environmental and circular economy values of Australia Pacific Airports Melbourne. It all STEMs from here 🌱 🤖 🛰️ To celebrate National Science Week, two of our in-house STEM superheroes eagerly participated in the Queensland Academy for Science Mathematics and Technology (SMT) Brunch with a Scientist event, connecting with, and inspiring, the next generation of industry leaders. The event was a great opportunity for the Academy students to interact with experts working in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics about the rewarding career pathways available to them. Darcy, an Engineer by trade who has progressed to Development Manager for our property division Urbex Pty Ltd and Jai, an Environmental Scientist and BMD Group’s Environmental Manager, shared with students the range of opportunities a career in civil construction at BMD offers. They explained how we are creating enduring legacies through the infrastructure we deliver across Australia, the Philippines, and the UK. BMD has teamed up with Viva Energy Australia to power a trial with hydrotreated vegetable oil (#HVO), a more sustainable alternative to diesel. 🌱 Also known as renewable diesel, HVO is a crucial transition fuel for the construction industry, potentially allowing us to achieve significant carbon emissions reductions in the short-term without needing to modify existing plant and machinery. By embracing innovative solutions like HVO, BMD is advancing our decarbonisation journey and driving sustainability beyond business as usual. BMD is skilfully delivering some ‘plane’ good progress on Brisbane Airport’s largest runway upgrade project in nearly four decades. ✈️ Check out how we’re lifting 18 aging concrete slabs sky-high from the city-end of the original runway, with the help of a 'Super Dyson', while planes continue to take off and land overhead. BMD has proudly partnered with Brisbane Airport Corporation for over 20 years.
