#BrisbanePopUp - it's the event thrown by event professionals, for event professionals. More than 70 event suppliers and 250 corporate event organisers descended on Pullman Brisbane King George Square yesterday for Brisbane Economic Development Agency’s 17th Brisbane Pop-Up, the region’s signature showcase and meetup for business events. From hotels, restaurants and venues to tour companies, furniture hire and AV, Brisbane’s world-class meeting and conference offering was front and centre, capping off a strong FY24 that saw Brisbane secure 90 significant events, 153,591 delegate days and $80 million in direct economic impact for the city. While new relationships and new business was the aim of the game, guests also enjoyed live entertainment, incredible prizes and a spectacular confetti pop prize draw by Skylighter Fireworks to wrap up the afternoon. This week, Brisbane Economic Development Agency in collaboration with Tourism and Events Queensland brought together more than 45 of Brisbane region’s leading tourism operators for an educational Brisbane Famil Forum. Held at Emporium Hotels, the Forum was an opportunity for local businesses to gain strategic marketing tools and insights into the purpose and outcomes of destination famil showcases, while also learning how to maximise the benefits of hosting key media and trade clients.   Over the next 12 months, Brisbane will take centre stage by hosting a number of landmark industry tradeshows and business events, including #PCOA24 and #ATE25, offering an opportunity for local businesses to foster lasting partnerships and showcase our city as an ideal destination. The 2024 Brisbane Fashion Festival program kicks off this weekend, celebrating homegrown local designers and the Australian fashion industry. Running from August 25-30, this year’s program will bring Brisbane City Hall and King George Square to life with exciting events, incredible entertainment and bustling activations. Now in its 17th year, the festival has become a highlight on Brisbane’s major events calendar, expecting over 4000 attendees and delivering a $5 million boost to our local economy, while also creating local jobs for the community. For the second year, the ‘Dress to Express’ Day, will take place on Friday 30 August, in partnership with Brisbane Fashion Festival and Beyond DV Ltd. Starting in King George Square, this event will see participants walking in solidarity with domestic violence survivors as they rediscover their identity and style. One year on, the history-making 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup™ has left a lasting legacy on Brisbane. As part of finding creative solutions to being more sustainable, Brisbane Economic Development Agency partnered with both Department of Tourism and Sport and Bailey Print Group to have the event street pole banners recycled into sport bags. This week, Football Queensland began distributing the bags to local football clubs, with the aim of inspiring the next generation of football stars. The #fifawwc23 was Brisbane’s biggest international sporting event in 40 years, hosting eight matches and injecting an incredible $100 million into the city’s economy while welcoming over 350,000 attendees. As Brisbane’s global popularity and $10.6 billion visitor economy continues to soar, Brisbane Economic Development Agency’s trade and distribution team this month visited ten cities across North America to meet and train key travel advisors, suppliers, and buyers. From Seattle and Chicago to Dallas and Fort Lauderdale, BEDA, alongside some of our region’s local tourism operators, have been promoting Brisbane as a leading destination, culminating at the Down Under Summit 2024 in Breckenridge, Colorado, hosted by Tourism and Events Queensland and the South Australian Tourism Commission. BEDA also met with key airline partner American Airlines, local media and tourism advisors in the Dallas region to promote the upcoming non-stop Dallas to Brisbane route, launching in late October 2024. North America remains one of Brisbane’s key markets for tourism and trade growth. Recent data shows that Brisbane has welcomed more visitors from North America than ever before, with record-breaking visitor numbers from both the USA and Canada. By Christmas 2024, these figures are set to increase when Brisbane will be serviced by four major North American airlines: Delta Air Lines, American Airlines, United Airlines & Air Canada.
