#TeamCHS unveils visionary project! 🚀👩⚕️ We're thrilled to share the far-reaching impact and visionary aims of our Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) project. 🌐💡 Empowering our patients to make decisions about their own medical treatment and enhancing their mental health is always at the forefront of our practice at CHS. At the heart of this journey is our MRFF project led by University of Sydney , where CHS, as the patient-facing institution, collaborates with The Australian National University. 🎯 Our Vision: We're on a mission to develop co-designed, integrated, person-centred models of care that enhance the physical and mental health of people with innate VSCs and their families. This includes those facing intersectional disadvantages. 🌈👨👩👧👦 🌟 Our Aims: Transform care models to focus on psychosocial support, challenging traditional approaches. Understand the needs and experiences of adolescents and adults with IVSCs, even those with hard-to-reach negative health care experiences. Undertake community-based, participatory, and human rights-affirming research. Build the capacity of the research community for relevant work in IVSC health needs. 🤝💬 🚀 Our Work Packages: Conduct mixed methods research to understand the needs of adults and adolescents with VSCs. Develop, implement, and evaluate clinical and peer-led models of care that centre psychosocial support for children with VSCs. Develop bioethical frameworks for co-designed, ethically defensible, and socially acceptable models of care. 🔄🔬 'People with VSCs have diverse experiences, and their health needs should be addressed with respect to their rights and preferences. ACT is leading the way in implementing psychosocial supports for this population. However, gaps persist in our understanding of what these needs are, and our project aims to fill them! 🌍💙’ – Velissa, Social Worker. Let's champion inclusivity, break down barriers, and redefine health care norms together! 🌟💪 #CHSResearch #HealthcareInnovation #InclusiveCare #MRFFProject #BreakingBarriers #CommunityDrivenResearch

𝐖𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐢𝐭 𝐏𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐃𝐚𝐲!!! On the 30th of August 2024, the City Community Health Centre, Alcohol and Drug Diversion Services Team, proudly celebrated Wear it Purple Day. This day holds immense significance as it champions the rights of LGBTQIA+ young people to feel safe, supported, and empowered. The team emphasized the importance of inclusivity and diversity within our community, reflecting our commitment to creating an environment where everyone feels valued and respected. The day was not only a celebration but also a powerful tool for raising awareness about the unique challenges faced by LGBTQIA+ individuals, particularly in the context of alcohol and drug diversion services. By participating in Wear it Purple Day, the team demonstrated solidarity and a shared responsibility to advocate for the well-being and dignity of all service users, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. The event was a reminder of our ongoing dedication to fostering a community rooted in acceptance and understanding. #wearitpurpleday #ADS #CHS Canberra Health Services

Introducing Daisy Dino the Dinosaur! We are delighted to introduce Daisy the Dinosaur, the newest mascot at the Dickson Walk-in Centre. Lovingly crafted by our partners at Good Omen Goodeze Inc, Daisy is set to bring joy and comfort to our young patients. She joins the cherished Gungahlin Goose in our tradition of providing support and cheer to children in our care. Mary, coordinator at Good Omen Goodeze and a longtime educator, highlights the significance of play in the lives of children, especially when they face health challenges: ‘Play is an essential part of children's lives, offering joy and distraction during challenging times’. Daisy serves not only as a comforting presence for children awaiting treatment but also as a symbol of our community spirit. The crochet group responsible for Daisy’s creation finds immense fulfillment in their work. Mary shares, ‘This initiative is about more than just making toys; it's about bonding, sharing a sense of purpose, and fostering community connections. It has brought our community closer, creating a network of care and compassion.’ We invite you to join us in celebrating Daisy the Dinosaur and the positive impact she brings to the Dickson Walk-in Centre. Together, we continue to spread smiles, one stitch at a time. 🧶💖 #TeamCHS #HandmadeToys #TheGoodOmenGoodeze #WalkInCentre #SpreadingSmiles #DinoTheDinosaur #ChildrensHealth
