CARE, along with 12 other #INGOs, including Save the Children International, Plan International and Oxfam International has released Gaza Humanitarian Snapshot #2, the second in a series of snapshots which aim to provide an overview of the ongoing humanitarian crisis in #Gaza. #Women and #girls in Gaza continue to face unbearable conditions, with denied access to food, safe water, basic painkillers and health facilities. CARE continues to call for an immediate and sustained #ceasefire in Gaza, without which, it is not possible to respond to the scale of the devastation and save lives. Supporting women. Defeating poverty.
About us
CARE is an international humanitarian aid organisation fighting global poverty, with a special focus on working with women and girls to bring about lasting change to their communities. We are a non-religious and non-political Australian charity, working together with communities to provide emergency relief and address the underlying causes of poverty. We believe supporting women and girls is one of the most effective ways to create sustainable outcomes in poor communities.

Thank you to Governance Institute of Australia for having CARE Australia Interim CEO Morgana Ryan FAICD speak at the Not-for-Profit Governance Forum held last week. Morgana was joined by fellow panelist Justine Cain from Diabetes Australia and Chair Justin Hogg from Right Source to discuss some of the most urgent challenges and solutions across the not-for-profit industry. #NFP24
#NFP24 — Not-for-Profit Governance Forum 2024. “The not-for-profit space is unique, and because of this there is a bit of an art to understanding your organisation and it ties back to strategy. The board has a critical role to ask those tough questions to ensure you achieve your strategy. We do ourselves a disservice by comparing ourselves with the corporate sector.” — Morgana Ryan FAICD “We must reframe overheads and put the right amount of money in overheads. We are doing a disservice to Australians. We need to fight the good fight over overhead allocations.” — Justine Cain Our Panel discussion, sponsored by Right Source, titled "Delivering the NFP board mandate". Featuring speakers: • Morgana Ryan FAICD, Interim Chief Executive Officer, CARE Australia, Director, Wodonga TAFE • Justine Cain, Group Chief Executive Officer, Diabetes Australia, Director, UnitingCare Queensland • Chair: Justin Hogg FGIA, Managing Director, Right Source Speaking on: • Collaborative strategic planning – board and executive • Transparency in reporting to board – integrating financial results with environmental and societal impacts and long-term value • Monitoring risk, opportunity and appetite to deliver mission • Is the task of NFP boards extending beyond stewardship and governance oversight in current landscape?

This week we had the pleasure of welcoming the new Country Director of CARE International in Vanuatu Wilmaraia Sinumila, into our Melbourne office for her CARE induction. The appointment of Wilma marks an important milestone for CARE Vanuatu, as it is the first time a Ni-Vanuatu woman will lead the CARE team. Wilma spent a busy week meeting with team members across various work streams, from programmes, to humanitarian, to public advocacy and communications. We wish Wilma all the best in her new role and look forward to working closely with her and the team going forwards. #Vanuatu #NiVanuatu

Country Director for CARE International in PNG, Justine McMahon, has shared what the situation is like for people in Enga Province, more than a month since the community was devastated by a landslide. Read her blog post in Development Policy Centre below. #PapuaNewGuinea #EngaProvince
“The situation in the affected landslide area, both for survivors, and host and surrounding communities, is complex. Women, children, the elderly, and people who live with disabilities are at increased risk of violence, abuse, or harassment,” says Justine McMahon from CARE. “Until there is a safe area to relocate survivors they will be unable to begin the long and difficult process of recovery.” Australian Humanitarian Partnership UNICEF https://lnkd.in/gNQ-DNKk
