  • Congratulations to Bunbury Catholic College science teacher Annabel Kanakis who has been recognised as a finalist in the 2024 Premier’s Science Awards. https://lnkd.in/ghn6z2tp  Annabel said: “I am very proud to be a finalist as it represents recognition and acknowledgement at a community level for the 39 years I have spent devoting my life to science and STEM education. Professionally it represents value for what I do and have accomplished with my students, and also provides encouragement for other teachers to further their interest in STEM education. It provides further motivation to continue to inspire young people to achieve to their potential and to encourage them to study and pursue a career in STEM. “STEM is crucial for Australia’s future as it drives innovation, economic growth, and global competitiveness. By investing in STEM education and research, Australia enhances its ability to address complex challenges such as climate change, cybersecurity, and healthcare, while fostering a skilled workforce that can thrive in a rapidly evolving job market. Embracing STEM helps ensure a prosperous and resilient future for our future generations. “The STEM program at BCC demonstrates the enormous array of possibilities for students who are interested in pursuing study and careers that involve STEM. They are encouraged to problem solve and think critically with empathy and communicate and work collaboratively to achieve a common goal. The project work that we do, and the activities and competitions that the students are involved in provide these opportunities. By being a passionate educator and mentor, students realise the purpose and pleasure of studying areas of learning being modelled.”

  • The partnership between Catholic schools and state governments is vital to ensuring parents continue to benefit from school choice. Catholic schools in WA save taxpayers hundreds of millions annually. However, unlike in other states, WA’s Catholic schools don’t receive capital grant funding. Time for this to change. That’s why we're calling on WA’s political parties to put students first by offering fair funding to our schools. https://lnkd.in/gQeJA9_8 ⤵️

We’re building new schools and expanding existing schools to meet the growing demand for Catholic education. Dr Edward Simons joined Education Minister Ben Carroll as he announced $243m in capital funding for Catholic schools across Victoria. We greatly appreciate the support of Victorian Government.

  • Last week CEWA hosted the latest meeting of the National Education Digital Leadership Advisory Group (NEDAG). NEDAG is a group of technology leaders spanning Government, Catholic, and Independent school systems from across the country. Over two days the group discussed topics as diverse as artificial intelligence, digitisation of regulatory authority functions, and cybersecurity. Tony Panetta, CEWA’s Chief Technology Officer said: “It is a privilege to be hosting thought leaders, stakeholders, and experts from across the country to address key issues and advancements in deploying digital technologies in education. “These meetings are an important part of fostering collaboration and information sharing among ICT leaders, including around key issues like AI in Education and Cyber Safety. It means our leaders stay updated on national initiatives, gain insights from vendors, and ensure the Catholic voice is heard and included.”
