Aboriginal Languages We are incredibly proud of the work Karen Brown and our Aboriginal Education Officers across the Diocese of Bathurst, sharing Aboriginal languages in our Primary schools. This wonderful initiative, initially piloted in selected schools in 2023, has yielded tremendous success, leading to the expansion of the program to more schools in 2024. Catholic Education Diocese of Bathurst recognised the importance of acknowledging and honouring the Aboriginal cultures and languages that have existed on this land for thousands of years. Through this program, the participating schools have actively contributed to the preservation and promotion of the Wiradjuri language. By sharing Aboriginal languages, Catholic schools in the Bathurst Diocese are providing students with a unique opportunity to develop a deep appreciation for Aboriginal culture. The program not only fosters language acquisition but also instils respect for the rich history, traditions, and knowledge systems that Aboriginal communities have preserved for generations.
