The future is bright. We spoke with these young women ahead of our Women in Renewables Lunch at #ACES2024 last month and asked about the one idea or solution they wished leaders would act upon to help achieve net zero by 2050. Through our Women in Renewables initiative, we’ve been championing women in clean energy for almost 10 years. Our events are always informative and inspiring, and always sold out. Join us for the next one at All Energy Australia in Melbourne in October by registering here: https://lnkd.in/gSrM3DvG A big thanks to Millie Perkins, Jacinta Fitzgerald, Aseera S., Jessica Lee, April Golder, Zahra Jaigirdar and Gurpreet Kaur for collaborating with us on this video. #cleanenergy #renewableenergy #womeninrenewables #AllEnergyAU

As ageing fossil fuel generation exits our energy system, renewable energy is stepping up to keep the lights on. That’s the story in the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO)’s latest Electricity Statement of Opportunities report, published today. The market operator finds the pipeline of current and expected energy projects will meet reliability standards for most of the next 10 years. AEMO’s analysis recognises the volumes of new utility scale generation and storage investment being delivered by the clean energy industry as a key factor in improving reliability. Reliability is also supported by government initiatives such as state Renewable Energy Zones and the Capacity Investment Scheme. The coordinated rollout of consumer energy resources, chiefly rooftop solar and batteries, also plays a key role in reliability, while accelerating transmission investment is key. For more detail on the report, check out the excellent post below from our Director of Market, Grid and Investment, Christiaan Zuur: https://lnkd.in/gk8tpCCc #cleanenergy #renewableenergy

Director, Market, Grid and Investment Policy at Clean Energy Council

AEMO’s Electricity Statement of Opportunities (ESOO) is a 10-year assessment of whether there is sufficient generation, transmission and storage to meet demand. Each ESOO report is pitched differently, depending on the message the market needs to hear. This one tells a positive story, while reminding us of the importance of staying the course. Here's a high level summary of the more detailed analysis that will shortly be provided to CEC members: - Each year the ESOO compares two scenarios. The mandated, pessimistic Committed and Anticipated Investments scenario is a conservative view of future investment, accounting for commissioned, committed and anticipated projects - advanced projects only. AEMO also delays delivery dates to account for project delay risk - Even in this pessimistic scenario, reliability outcomes have improved from last year. Breaches of the standard have been pushed back by a year or so – see figure below, from page 67 of the report. - Multiple factors drive this, including revised demand and the NSW Eraring extension. However, the approximately 5700MW of new capacity that has entered AEMO’s reliability projections in the last 12 months is a key component. - The Committed and Anticipated scenario excludes the capacity that will be enabled by the CIS, NSW Energy Roadmap, QLD Energy and Jobs plan and the Victorian RET/VTP. Once even a portion of those schemes are included, reliability projections improve dramatically. In fact, AEMO projects no breach of the standard in nearly all jurisdictions until 2033/34. - Its not all smooth sailing, with reliability breaches remaining in the out years, reflecting coal gen exit. This reiterates the need for more long duration storage to replace the energy that will leave the system as coal units retire. - There’s more than reliability projections to look at in this fascinating document, such as the technology mix analysis on page 70; and the changing time of day/year risk assessment confirming winter is the new reliability at risk period; - The analysis of ‘on time delivery’ on page 75 emphasises just how important is our ongoing work to accelerate connections. Finally the analysis of additional transmission and coordinated CER on page 72 shows significant reliability benefits of these actions, particularly for Victoria. - The Energy Adequacy Assessment highlights the reliability risks associated with dependency on coal and gas generation, with material breaches of the standard associated with coal and gas supply risks - page 96. Low levels of onsite storage also highlight risks of reliance on fuel based generation. Document here: https://lnkd.in/gND6NXG6

Soon, photovoltaic modules used in solar installations will need to meet 2021 standards to remain eligible for government rebates. It’s important all solar retailers and installers ensure they use the correct solar panels. From 1 October 2024, all PV modules approved by the Clean Energy Council must comply with the 2021 edition of the IEC 61215 series, unless an extension has been granted. You can view which solar panels are expiring or eligible on the Clean Energy Council products list https://zurl.co/jo6I • Those with an expiry date of 30 September 2024 or earlier are not certified to 2021 standards and will not be considered approved nor eligible for STCs after this date. • Those with an expiry date of 31 March 2025 were given an extension and will not be considered approved nor eligible for STCs after this date. • Those with an expiry date later than 31 March 2025 are certified to 2021 standards and are considered approved beyond the deadline. They also have a suffix saying IEC 61215-2021. They are eligible for STCs now and into the future.

Bringing communities on the journey with the clean energy transition was among the key discussion topics at the CEO Roundtable with The Hon. Deb Frecklington MP, Shadow Minister for Energy today. Renewable Energy’s most influential leaders gathered in Brisbane this afternoon for the exclusive event hosted by the Clean Energy Council. The group discussed industry’s commitment to delivering lasting benefits to regions, listening to the specific needs of communities and working to solve local issues. The Clean Energy Council’s Queensland State Director Tracey Stinson said the discussion provided valuable insights about how governments can work with industry to deliver the energy transition. “This discussion galvanised our industry in the need to raise our standards when it comes to our relationships with landholders and communities,” Ms Stinson said. “The shadow minister is from a community working through these issues and her insights were well-received by the leadership group.” #queensland #energy

Federal environmental approval has been granted to what will be Australia's largest renewable energy project in the Northern Territory, a solar farm that will potentially power 3 million homes, as well as exporting energy to Singapore via undersea cables.   It takes years and a massive amount of work to progress a project of this size through the requirements of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act and for the environment minister to feel confident a project avoids and mitigates environmental impacts – no small feat given the project extends across many hundreds of kilometres.   This should be seen as a tremendous milestone for Australia's clean energy superpower ambitions. https://lnkd.in/gvuJBW4y #cleanenergy #renewableenergy

The Clean Energy Council’s Regional Director for Policy and Impact for Queensland, Tracey Stinson and Policy Officer - Distributed Energy, Maxime Di Petta presented earlier this week at the Queensland Government’s Renewables Recycling Summit in Toowoomba. A vast number of components including solar panels, wind turbines and other products are needed for the clean energy transition, the majority of which can be reused or recycled. Getting recycling right is critical to our industry’s reputation. Tracey presented key findings from our 2023 ‘Winding Up’ report showing that between 85 and 94% of wind turbines (by mass) is recyclable, while Max presented on our work with Clean Energy Council members to integrate circularity into the industry. We are establishing the Manufacturing and Product Life Cycle Working Group to explore product stewardship and to advocate for government policy and support in this area. Thank you to the Department of State Development and Infrastructure for hosting a great event.
