At Compass Group Australia, we're committed to making a positive impact in the communities in which we work. Every few months, our ESS site chefs collaborate with local volunteers at the Youth Involvement Council in South Hedland. Together, they prepare nutritious meals for families in need. Recently, our team prepared a selection of dishes, including beef lasagna, spaghetti bolognese, tuna pasta bake and mac and cheese. Meet Garry Spencer, he’s celebrating 10 years with Compass Group Australia. Starting with us as a Sous Chef within our Restaurant Associates business, he moved through the ranks to Head Chef and 3 years ago he stepped into his current role as a Unit Manager. Reflecting on his journey, Garry explained that rebuilding the team after covid was a huge challenge, but said seeing his team collaborate has been incredibly rewarding. One of our WA ESS sites was lucky to have a visit from Master Chef's Brendan Pang. In collaboration with our talented Chefs, Brendan created a Chinese Street Food feast for our residents at a huge scale, with 300kgs each of chicken, beef and pork and, in Brendan's words, "more fried rice than I had ever cooked in my life." Our teams at Restaurant Associates are always looking for new ways to engage and captivate our client’s staff in the office through unique culinary experiences. We recently collaborated with OzHarvest and our clients at Optiver with an office kitchen takeover to support our continued efforts to reduce food waste at our sites around the country. The menu for the day was completely plant-based with a focus on being zero waste, and staff were introduced to the important work OzHarvest do, including their innovative Use It Up TapeTM! This helps remind you what food needs using up in your fridge and pantry, and has been proven to reduce food waste at home by 40%.
