MCV's Court Integrated Services Program (CISP) is changing the lives of court users by aiming to reduce the likelihood of people on bail reoffending by connecting them with support services. In the past year, 2,334 new participants were accepted into CISP, with 1,162 people having completed the program in 2023-24. Its success is also measured by the positive impacts the program has on participants, which include helping to stop or reduce drug use, accessing mental health treatment for the first time or finding safe and secure housing. Something as simple as participants engaging in meaningful conversations with their case manager has the potential to encourage participants to commit to their appointments and help prevent clients from engaging in offending behaviour while on bail. The program adopts a team-based approach where case managers, support agencies and magistrates work together to help a court user get back on track. Some of the services available include accommodation, alcohol and other drug (AOD) support, mental health treatment and Koori specific services. CISP was established at Melbourne in 2006 and is now offered at 20 court locations across Victoria. Eligible court users can participate in the program at any time up until their sentence. For people who are on remand or in custody at court locations where CISP isn’t available, they can still access the MCV CISP Remand Outreach Program (CROP) team. https://lnkd.in/gwQvSFHs #CriminalJustice #TherapeuticCourt #AusLaw
