“At the moment, when a child is diagnosed with DIPG/DMG it's already at quite an advanced stage. So, it’s just a matter of how many months…there is no cure.” – Dr Yolanda Colino Sanguino, Researcher. Six-year-old Ruby’s life was filled with kindness and joy, but tragically it was cut short by brain cancer. Her legacy should be more than cherished memories - it should be a future where no more children are lost to DIPG/DMG and other brain cancers. Please, will you make an urgent tax-deductible gift today? For families like Ruby’s, the heart-wrenching reality is that if their child is diagnosed with a certain type of brain cancer, their only option is to “go home and make memories”. Every dollar you donate brings us closer to better treatments and a cure for childhood brain cancers. For Ruby and the family she left behind, it would be a fitting way to honour her short life and precious memory. Together, we can rewrite Ruby’s story – from one of heartbreaking loss to one of lifesaving hope. Rebecca, a registered nurse and mother of three, was diagnosed with Glioblastoma (GBM) in October 2022. Her husband, Mark, contacted the National Advocacy Service (NAS) in February 2023 for support. From the very beginning, NAS worked closely with Mark to provide his family with counselling as well as financial and legal support. NAS also helped them navigate the complexities of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Access Request by compiling impact statements and preparing necessary documentation. Rebecca's access was granted in April 2023, allowing her to receive the care she needed and spend her final moments at home with her family. Rebecca's journey, supported by NAS and NDIS, highlights the importance of comprehensive care and the impact of a strong support network during challenging times. Since its commencement in November 2021 through the Foundation's partnership with Peace of Mind Foundation Australia, NAS has assisted over 900 families like Rebcca's to access over $60 million in support via government and non-government funded programs.
