DPC has a proud history since 1859. We serve the Premier and Cabinet, and provide leadership for the public sector.

About us

Welcome to the Department of the Premier and Cabinet. We deal with the 'bigger picture' strategic aspects of government. As our name suggests, it's our job to support and advise the Premier and Cabinet so that the government's priorities can be met. We provide a broad range of services to the Premier and Cabinet, government Ministers and the community. As the lead agency in the Queensland Public Service, we work closely with all government agencies to lead key strategies and plans from conception through to implementation. Our vision is to make a real and tangible difference today, and future generations will recognise our contributions. Our guiding principles of leadership, innovation, inclusiveness, collaboration and empowerment underpin everything we do.

  • Mount Isa Mines Indigenous Rodeo Championship Last week saw the culmination of a significant sponsorship activity for the department with the delivery of the Mount Isa Mines Indigenous Rodeo Championships. Now in its third year, the Championships is a standalone event held in conjunction with the Mount Isa Mines Rodeo and attracts not only Indigenous amateur and professional athletes and their families, but a wide range of rodeo enthusiastic searching for an authentic Indigenous experience. DPC led a cross-agency working group with input from DTIS, DTATSIPCA, TEQ, AQ and DESBT to ensure relevant leveraging opportunities and benefits are achieved for the Queensland Government’s investment. The event offered an action-packed schedule of rodeo, rock music and good old rodeo entertainment, culminating with the Rodeo Rocks Concert featuring DJ Deadly Jacob and headline artists Casey Chambers and Chrstine Anu. Thank you to the Sponsorship team in Events and Engagement for listening and leading to deliver this important initiative. Love your work! • The Royal Queensland Show (Ekka) wrapped up last weekend, with final visitor numbers for the Queensland Government precinct reaching nearly 58,000 over the nine days! This year’s precinct theme was ‘Doing what matters for Queensland’, focusing on the greatest priorities for Queenslanders from across the state. Our Events and Engagement team coordinated the participation of more than 19 departments and agencies, with the creative Strategic Communication Design team helping to bring the precinct to life! Thanks to all departments involved and our incredible DPC volunteers who worked onsite to keep the precinct running smoothly.

  • Last week, our Director-General, Mike Kaiser, visited HQPlantations for the launch of their Araucaria product line—an inspiring example of economic development and environmental stewardship working together. He was joined by Environment and Planning Policy (EPP) Director Justin Carpenter, whose team led the creation of the Queensland Sustainable Timber Industry Framework, marking a significant step in reforming Queensland’s forest policies. The framework's terms of reference will guide changes in timber production, supply chain development, job creation, forest-related markets, environmental protections, and opportunities for First Nations peoples. To learn more, visit A big shoutout to the EPP and Reform teams for navigating the complexities of these policies within tight timeframes. And thank you to the Strategic Communication team for your unwavering support!
