Find out the latest news from South East Queensland's electricity distribution business.

About us

Energex Limited (Energex) and its predecessor organisations have provided electricity to homes and businesses in South East Queensland since the late 19th Century. Energex was formed in 1997 to replace the South East Queensland Electricity Board (SEQEB) and until 2007 the company not only distributed electricity but also reticulated and sold gas and electricity products. The gas and electricity retail businesses and gas reticulation network were sold in 2006/07 prior to the commencement of full retail gas and electricity contestability in Queensland in July 2007. Now we distribute electricity to more than 1.4 million residential, commercial and industrial customers across a population base of around 3.2 million in South East Queensland. In 2016, we merged with regional Queensland electricity distributor Ergon Energy Network under the newly formed entity Energy Queensland. We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians and pay our respect to all Elders past, present and emerging on whose land we walk, work and live on, and their continuing connection to land, sea and community.

The latest stellar production from our long-time partnership with Queensland Theatre is not to be missed. Dear Brother opens on Sept 7, bringing together heart, drama, dance, and music to tell an important First Nations story of becoming. Here's what the creative talents behind Dear Brother had to say in a chat during rehearsal break.

Don’t miss Dear Brother. It’s deadly! I am so proud of our long-running partnership with Queensland Theatre. This year marks 13 years since it started and we have seen some absolutely incredible productions and performances that attract rave reviews. Get along to see Dear Brother presented by Queensland Theatre and BlakDance from 7-28 September at Billie Brown Theatre. Part of Brisbane Festival. I dropped by last week to check out rehearsal and was lucky enough to sit down with Production Director Isaac Drandić and cast members and writers Tibian Wyles & Lenny Donahue for a chat. At its heart, Dear Brother is about the support First Nations’ men give each other between the important years of adolescence and adulthood. Centred around the theme, The Right to a Rite of Passage, Dear Brother combines the high energy of its performers with song, music, drama and dance - and there’ll be a lot of heart in it too. This video includes an impromptu dance display from Lenny. Enjoy! One for the calendar for sure – bookings are open now. 63,106,219kms: that’s 164 trips to the moon, or 1500 laps around the equator. It’s also the distance our people drove last year. We know that exposure = risk, so regular training, fatigue management, and in-vehicle tech are big priorities. But no policy or gadget is as powerful as a culture where ‘safe on the roads’ is just how we operate, and it’s both professional pride and personal motivation that drives us. As our own Michael Jeffrey puts it, “your kids don’t care if you get to the job early”. What drives you to drive safely? We’re one team, Qld: Let’s drive like it. https://lnkd.in/g77BTXRz #QLDRoadSafetyWeek #StreetSmartsQLD #RoadSafetyWeek

It’s been a few months now since I wrapped up my time in good ol’ Far North Queensland in the land of cyclones and crocodiles (🌀🐊 Cairns)! Outside of being a tropical escape in paradise, the past year has been eye-opening learning about the vast distribution network that spans our state, but also engaging closely with our smaller Isolated Networks. Considering 40% of our distribution network supplies only 4% of the population in QLD, I jumped on the first opportunity to get out to our regions. Cairns topped my list due to its unique position and role as an innovation hub, featuring facilities like the Microgrid and Isolated Systems Test (MIST) lab. I’ve been fortunate to lead and work on various projects for our isolated communities, travelling to some of the most remote areas out west and up in the Torres Strait. This boots on the ground experience has deepened my appreciation for the work of our crews and the unique challenges of managing such a vast network. Additionally, the projects have not only enhanced my technical skills but also underscored the critical role of community and stakeholder engagement in the energy transition. The Queensland Energy and Jobs Plan (QEJP) sets out our state's bold vision to achieve 70 per cent renewable energy by 2032 and 80 per cent by 2035. I've worked on projects that contribute to these targets such as the HV/LV Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) roll out, and as I now enter my final rotation, I'll be getting exposure to the development of one of the worlds first integrated Distributed Energy Resource Management Systems (DERMS). EQL continues to be at the forefront as we transition to the future grid, and as we all know, there is no solution without distribution. 😉 I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity and recommend everyone get out into the regions! I also want to acknowledge that these experiences would not have been possible without the support of the Energy Queensland Graduate Program. The intake for the 2025 Graduate Program is now open! Please share this info with your network and feel free to reach out with any questions. 😊✌🏾 https://lnkd.in/eR_AG79s Energex | Ergon Energy

Diversity doesn't just happen by magic: it's the result of long-term investment in a workforce, sustained shifting of culture and expectations, and leadership that recognises - and endorses - the benefits of a wider range of staff and perspectives. See what our Chief Operating Officer Paul Jordon has to say, including the role of our Women in Trades and Operational Roles (WiNTOR) group.

The 2024 Queensland Household Energy Survey results are in, and the report is giving us plenty of food for thought. 🚘 59% of households in the market for a new vehicle would consider an EV. ☀ 27% of households plan to purchase, upgrade or replace solar in the next three years. 💡 21% of households with a gas connection are seriously considering converting to electricity only. The more we know about our customers’ plans, the better we can support them in the energy transition. The Queensland Household Energy Survey is a long-running partnership between us, Ergon Energy and Powerlink Queensland - for more 2024 insights visit https://qhes.com.au/ #energyfuture #customers #electriclife #EV #solar

𝗤𝘂𝗲𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱, 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂!!!!! There’s been an incredible response to our 2025 apprentice recruitment which closed this week. Nearly 6500 Queenslanders threw their hats into the ring: a record number of applications, and the highest calibre we’ve ever seen. Now, we’re burning the midnight oil to give people clarity about where they stand. Around 75% of applicants will be invited to undergo online testing. This step will identify the candidates who will progress to video interviews and further testing, ahead of in-person sessions at our assessment centres in August. After this rigorous selection process, we expect to welcome 185 new starters to Energex and Ergon Energy in our Class of 2025. We also know that huge numbers of applications mean a lot of disappointed people. Those who didn’t make the cut should hold their heads high - these are some of the most sought-after apprenticeships in the country, and the competition this year was fiercer than ever. Due to the sheer volume of applications, we can’t provide individual feedback, but we strongly encourage those who have their heart set on an apprenticeship with us to apply again next year – lots of our apprentices to earn their spot after multiple attempts. To hear about our next apprentice recruitment or our other great career opportunities right across our business, register for a Job Alert: https://lnkd.in/dDgxBY9 #qldjobs #apprenticeships #energycareers #electricaltrades

🔌 𝗘𝗩 𝗖𝐇𝐀𝐑𝐆𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐒𝐔𝐑𝐕𝐄𝐘: 𝐂𝐋𝐎𝐒𝐄𝐒 𝐅𝐑𝐈𝐃𝐀𝐘 𝟏𝟐 𝐉𝐔𝐋𝐘 You’ve got the power…and we’d love to know about it. We’re keen to hear from electric vehicle (EV) dealers, the people who design and manufacture EV charging equipment, and electrical contractors installing charging points, via a short survey: https://lnkd.in/gfqTMCEj The survey asks about different charging options, the sorts of questions you get from EV owners (or those considering going electric), and what info and communication channels have the most value for you. We know your time and insights are valuable, so there are 4x $250 gift cards to be won via random draw as a ‘thank you’. Don’t miss out on the chance to have your say before the survey closes next week! #electricvehicles #evs #evcharging
