🚀 Exciting Developments from Hydro Tasmania with Pumped Hydro🚀 Hydro Tasmania is Australia's largest generator of renewable energy - generating approximately 9,000 GWh of electricity annually and providing a storage capacity of 14 TWh - more storage than the rest of the National Electricity Market (NEM) combined. 🌿 As we transition to a greener future, the AEMO 2024 Integrated System Plan (ISP) projects the NEM will need 46 GW of dispatchable storage capacity, much of which will need to be deep storage - storage with a minimum generation duration of 10 hours. 💧 Pumped hydro emerges as a key solution for this long-duration storage, and Hydro Tasmania is poised to contribute significantly. Hydro Tasmania has identified Lake Cethana as a top pumped hydro site due to its deep storage capacity, proximity to existing infrastructure, and a short distance between the two storages.
