Expression Australia’s innovative Auslan National Disaster Risk Reduction (NDRR) Program is breaking new ground, not just in Western Australia but across the entire nation. Our program empowers our Deaf and hard of hearing West Australians through disaster preparedness in their language, Auslan. Building awareness and resilience, the program equips both first responders and volunteer SES teams with the skills and resources to effectively assist and collaborate with this often-overlooked community during disasters. This impactful program strengthens Western Australia's disaster preparedness by ensuring no one is left behind, even during emergencies. Expression Australia is pleased to announce the appointment of two new Board Directors. Andrew Crisp AM APM, and Melisa Sloan commence their terms from 1 July 2024. Andrew is an experienced public sector senior executive. His forty year career with Victoria Police included opportunities to work on national and international projects and working in Papua New Guinea and with the United Nations in Timor Leste. In 2018 at the rank of Deputy Commissioner, Andrew was asked to become Victoria’s Emergency Management Commissioner. Andrew was a trusted leader during five years of intense activity that included significant, bushfires, storms, floods and the response to COVID-19. Andrew has a wide range of skills and experience from strategic planning to community engagement and is excited about the opportunity to contribute to the important role of Board Director at Expression Australia. Melisa is the founder of Madison Sloan Lawyers, a published author, speaker and loves helping people to create beautiful legacies. Melisa has practised law for almost two decades predominantly in estate planning and probate with a particular emphasis on sophisticated complex estate planning matters and has featured in a number of publications as an authority on these topics. Drawing on her life experience, Melisa brings her knowledge and expertise in leadership, strategy, financial literacy and business management to the board. Continued in comments. Congratulations to Melbourne Polytechnic, celebrating 10 years of delivering Auslan courses this year. More than 2,400 Victorians have graduated with Auslan qualifications from Melbourne Polytechnic since 2013. Bianca Oldham is one of them – she has a Diploma of Auslan. Her journey in Auslan began because she wanted to communicate fluently with her son, who is Deaf. Now she works at a Deaf organisation called Expression Australia, where she uses her Auslan skills every day to engage with the Deaf community. Congratulations to Melbourne Polytechnic on TEN wonderful years of delivering accredited Auslan courses! Expression Australia has been working closely with Melbourne Polytechnic for many years, supporting hundreds of Auslan students. We've supported our staff completing their Auslan studies. We've created opportunities for Auslan students to enhance their Auslan skills through employment and real-world experiences. Expression Australia and Melbourne Polytechnic are committed to continue collaborating to build skills, knowledge and capabilities to support our Deaf and hard of hearing community to actively participate and contribute to the society. We're also very pleased to see the Victorian Government continuing their support of Auslan by adding Auslan courses to the Free TAFE course list. We look forward to many more years of collaborations with Melbourne Polytechnic!

Expression Australia are very excited to be partnering with Ray White Victoria to deliver an Auslan accessible auction LIVE on Thursday 20th June starting at 6PM. Over the last 12 months, we have been working closely with Real Estate Institute of Australia to highlight how the real estate industry can maximise accessibility and we are so pleased to see this come to fruition!
