It looks like we're building Lego. Really, we're building future Frost*.    We’re constantly looking at how we can improve – redesigning our business. We’ve grown in the past two years – a BIG part of this is our B Corp Certification, which is a huge source of pride. Off the back of this, we decided to update our brand and values. Simplifying them to their core. We’ve got a dynamic new website, too.    To celebrate, we spent a day together talking about how our future looks, what we’re working towards as a collective and how we’re going to do it. We’ve always been about solving problems with big ideas designed for real impact. Today, we’re even more focused on it than ever.    Vince Frost* Frost*collective Founder, CEO and ECD says, “I truly believe we can use creativity to solve some of the big problems our world faces today. We love working with like-minded businesses on projects that will benefit the environmental and people. Creativity has got us into this mess. And creativity will get us out. Updating our brand, values and purpose for 2023 has been about fine tuning what we’ve always done.”    Click the link below to head to our dynamic new website to learn more about how we’re designing a better world. https://lnkd.in/gXrHV4eJ   Thanks to CTRL Media for the video of the day.

“The fact that they can trust you to tell them that’s the future is quite massive. And I don’t ever want to let anybody down.”    Some people take a lifetime to find their true north, the thing they want to spend their days working on. That’s not the case for Sean Perkins. Growing up in South Yorkshire in the 70s, it wasn’t cool to get good grades. He flunked almost everything. Everything, but art.    Today, he’s one of the most influential graphic designers of our time. He’s created visual identities for some of the world’s most recognisable brands with his London-based studio North Design, one of the most revered graphic design companies working today. And the brands and client relationships he builds — they stand the test of time.    Some of his identity systems are still being used 20 years after he and his partners Jeremy Coysten and Stephen Gilmore first created them. Think Tate Modern, Barbican Centre, West Kowloon Cultural District, The Foundation Joan Miró. And perhaps most notably, the project that put his name on the map as a young designer, the UK’s iconic roadside assistance company, the RAC.    Listen in wherever you get your podcasts as Vince and Sean discuss, growing up buying albums for the covers, learning from Gert Dumbar, and the highs and lows of running their respective studios. As our good friends at Koskela announce the transition of their business to a fully circular model, we’re reflecting on our incredible partnership.    Koskela is a business that genuinely exists for social good and is a brand we are incredibly proud to work with. Well-known for bringing expertise to the sustainable design of working and learning environments in Australia, its offer stretches far beyond furnishings and homewares.    When we helped refresh their brand in 2022, rapid growth had resulted in brand fragmentation, muddying their propositions. They needed a brand strategy, brand architecture and refreshed design system that could bring clarity to different parts of their business (Work, Live, Learn) and the importance and impact of what they do.    Sasha Titchkosky, Founder, Koskela, says, “The team at Frost* are true strategic partners. Their incisive thinking helped us refresh our strategy and refocus our brand experience. They deeply understand the DNA of Koskela, our unique proposition, our commitment to leading the circular economy and the need to bring our brand to life in a different way. Deep insights from our customers, website users and clients are at the heart of this brilliant work."    Sending best wishes to Koskela as they embark on this next stage of their journey, and for everyone that loves sustainable design, check out the ‘Farewell Platypus Sale’ online now.    Click through to see the full case study: https://lnkd.in/gQVGmX5E

“We walk around with high-definition screens in our pocket. Moving screens are everywhere.”    From growing up in Sydney’s Inner West as a skate kid who took photos with a disposable camera of the local street art — or, as her calls it, ‘mad graph’ — to living out back for two years at Ayres Rock Resort, to playing didgeridoo on stage at the Glastonbury music festival. Mike Tosetto's path has been anything but direct.    It was when he stumbled upon a University of Sydney open day that things really started to unfold in the right direction. Today, Mike runs one of the foremost animation studios in Australia. Creating motion branding for businesses like Samsung, Adobe, Adidas, Microsoft, Google, Binge and Bugatti, translating strategic concepts into motion.     Listen in wherever you get your podcasts as Vince and Mike discuss being burnt out and not being able to see the woods for the trees, the relentless pursuit of delivering great outcomes, and the future of motion design. 25 years building bespoke workplaces. Far from our first day. As we celebrate 25 years, it’s time for a refresh. Just like updating a workplace to grow with a business, the essence of who we are is the same – this is about evolving and strengthening our identity for a new era of MPA. We have so much more to share over the coming weeks. In the meantime, head over to our new website to learn more about what we’ve been up to. https://www.mpa.com.au/

“I still really see Hurricane Katrina as the beginning of this era of it being bleeding obvious how unprepared we are for the kind of weather related disinters that have been rolling ever since then.”    Hurricane Katrina and the Northern Rivers Floods may have happened over a decade apart and on opposite sides of the world. But the disasters have a lot in common. New Orleans and Lismore found themselves caught in the eye of the storm when the cities, both located for prosperity around a major waterway but on compromised ground, were inundated by water and devasted in the process.    The other thing these disasters have in common are Elizabeth Mossop and Dan Etheridge. The academics met in New Orleans at a two-day symposium called ‘Reinhabiting NOLA’ in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.     The two clicked and stayed in close contact, but they could never have imagined they’d end up working together, using their research and experiences in New Orleans to help plan a thriving future for Lismore following the floods. Together, at Living Lab Northern Rivers, they’re doing just that.    Listen in wherever you get your podcasts as Vince, Elizabeth and Dan discuss; how growing up with science-obsessed fathers shaped them, experiencing New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and why we need to do things fundamentally differently to thrive in our changing world. We’ve created an intuitive wayfinding system for one of Australia’s smartest buildings, Brisbane’s Heritage Lanes building at 80 Ann St, designed by long term collaborators Woods Bagot. Our work reflects the rich history and character of the precinct using the architectural gesture of the ground plane travertine ‘ribbon’ to integrate signage and pathways around the site, including the heritage-listed Turbot Street Market.    The project’s $863m 35-level office tower is a world-class example that embraces leading technology, sustainability and design.    Click through to see how it creates a seamless and generously open new space in the city’s public realm: https://lnkd.in/g62QR54g

“It’s always, for me, connected back to cities and spaces and how things function and what the role of the city is in terms of the language of our lives.”    Michael Stott has spent over 25 years crafting narratives for cities around the world, considering how they can be made better for the people who inhabit them. As Head of Cities and Places, Masterplanning & Urban Design at DBI Consultants, one of Australia’s foremost multidisciplinary design practices, he’s at the forefront of Brisbane’s evolution as a global city in time for the 2032 Olympics.    Stott grew up in the picturesque Vancouver seaside communities of Whiterock and West Vancouver, and he credits his childhood exploring the vast landscapes of his home country with setting the tone for his life. And his fascination with balancing the scale of small and big when it comes to shaping cities.    Listen in wherever you get your podcasts as Vince and Michael discuss; how embracing local culture can help you feel at home, the influence of legendary architect Lord Richard Rogers and the UK’s Urban Renaissance and why Istanbul is one of his favourite cities in the world.
