Commercial real estate plays an important role in sustainability. For landlords concerned with change, this raises a question: are tenants meeting modern sustainability standards? This was a problem that Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW) wanted to solve, by tracking the performance of its retail stores. Learn how Good On You stepped in to help ⬇️ With more than 70 shopping centres across Europe and the United States, URW set out to optimise its leasing decisions and sustainability efforts in 2023. But it needed a way to measure and improve its entire portfolio performance and meet consumer expectations for more responsible choices. URW and Good On You created a solution together: the Sustainability Retail Index (SRI), an industry-pioneering tool that provides landlords with dynamic and comprehensive insights on their tenant’s sustainability performance. Powered by Good On You’s trusted ratings tech and expertise, the SRI solution — ➡️ Assesses retailers using the Good On You rating system, which scores brands on up to 1,000 data points across key social and environmental issues, combined with specific store-level indicators ➡️ Builds on long-standing expertise in fashion sustainability to expand ratings coverage across multiple retail verticals including beauty, home, tech and more ➡️Plugs into leasing systems to shape decision-making on optimal retail mix and consumer engagement ➡️ Supports retailers to improve with Good Measures, a tool that gives insights into brand ratings and their impacts on people, the planet, and animals Progress has steadily widened URW’s ability to assess its brands while expanding Good On You’s capabilities. Here’s what this partnership has yielded: 📈 Rating 1,000+ fashion brands in 8 weeks 📈 Launching 4 new ratings verticals, starting with beauty 📈 70% coverage of tenants (by revenue) by the end of this year … and in the latest news, more real estate leaders will soon access the SRI to drive the sustainable evolution of retail! We’re thrilled to work with URW to create more sustainable change across the real estate ecosystem. It’s September, which means #FashionMonth has begun. It starts in New York, moves to London, then Milan, and finishes in Paris—and we’re keeping an eye on what values brands are displaying on the world’s runways. Many more sustainable brands will be showing their collections, exemplifying the best efforts to create clothing that considers people, the planet, and animals. But let’s be real: the majority of large brands showing during fashion month aren’t doing the work. This is a fact: 75% of luxury brands received our two lowest ratings, “We Avoid” and “Not Good Enough”. We expect better of these industry leaders 👎🏼👎🏽👎🏿👎🏻👎🏾 But we’re optimistic, hopeful that this fashion month can shift from a first point of sale to a transmitter of ethics, as an opportunity to start conversations about overconsumption, championing fashion’s labour force, crediting local and Indigenous communities, reducing waste, going beyond greenwashed taglines, divesting from plastic and animal products, and so much more. Fashion month can be a force for change—and we’re willing this into reality 💗 What are your hopes for this fashion month? Tag a colleague and share in the comments below—then swipe to see what we don’t want to see at fashion week 👀 Visit the link for an explainer on luxury fashion’s sustainability record → https://lnkd.in/eewaTZ7U

The consumer goods industry is not doing enough to combat climate change, but there is hope. That’s the message from Cascale CEO Colin Browne at today’s Annual Meeting in Munich. Better use of data and more focussed, coherent efforts to tackle supply chain impacts offer lots of opportunity. We all know transparency and accountability is key, so it’s promising to see industry leaders step up to the challenge. With commitment, must come action. And fast. Consumers are ready to play their part and back brands doing good. Next stop is Seamless Europe to explore the latest in ecommerce and fintech. I’ll be looking at how we can keep integrating Good On You ratings tech into the very tools for enabling better consumer choices. Reach out if you’re here too!

Please say hello to Katlego Malekane (he/him), our newest Senior Back End Engineer on our Tech team! ✨ Based in Cape Town, Kat comes to us with a varied software engineering background having worked in advertising, banking, and hotels. “I've worked both in the agency and product model, which allowed me to harness my skills to deliver value in various situations,” Kat says. “I've also had the opportunity to lead a team and in so doing gain a deeper appreciation for bringing out the best in my co-workers as part of what I do as an engineer. I believe this will most often put me in a unique position to bring both technical and non technical value to the team.” This role aligns with Kat’s ongoing growth and interest in sustainability, which has evolved in expected and unexpected ways. “The background I come from has so many challenges that people are facing that sustainability (in regards to thinking about the production process of the shirt I'm wearing and the impact thereof on the planet, people and animals) is an unknown concern,” he says. “Becoming a father and more invested in the environment my children will grow up in has made me aware of such concepts, so when this role was brought to my attention, I was really excited by the thought of actively contributing towards a more sustainable world for my children to grow up in, even in my day-to-day job.” “Sustainability enables continuity,” Kat adds. “It's an essential tenet of the legacy we leave to the generations that follow.” Bravo! We couldn’t be happier to have Kat on our team, as we continue to work toward our goals of helping consumers make more informed decisions. Give Kat a warm welcome—and swipe for a peek into his life in Cape Town 💚
