At CLIA, our cruise line members are dedicated to fostering strong, sustainable relationships with the communities we visit. The Seabourn Pursuit’s recent arrival in the Kimberley region exemplifies this commitment. Seabourn has named the Wunambal Gaambera Traditional Owners as godparents of the Seabourn Pursuit, marking a historic first in the cruise industry. This symbolic gesture highlights a focus on preserving the cultural heritage and natural beauty of destinations. As part of this partnership, Seabourn Cruise Line supports the Wunambal Gaambera community through donations and art supplies, fostering year-round creative initiatives. Guests can immerse themselves in the rich cultural tapestry of the Kimberley through the Uunguu Experience, which includes ceremonies, rock art tours, traditional dances, and insights from the Uunguu Rangers. The Wunambal Gaambera Aboriginal Corporation’s Visitor Management Plan ensures responsible tourism, allowing Traditional Owners to engage with visitors and maintain their land. Contributions by cruise lines, alongside funding from Tourism Western Australia, aid in the development of tourism facilities, allowing Traditional Owners to live on their land and engage with visitors during the dry season. Collaborations like this embody the spirit of responsible tourism and community engagement, preserving cherished places for future generations. #WeAreCruise Peter Little Natalya Leahy Michael Mihajlov Tourism Western Australia Roger Cook Rita Saffioti MLA Don Farrell Mikaela Wangmann Samantha Palmer FIPAA James Larsson MBA

CLIA member cruise lines are proud to employ a multinational workforce. Often, you’ll find crew from more than 75 nationalities working onboard ships at any time. Seafarers from different nationalities, cultures, and backgrounds come together to deliver a guest experience unique to a cruise holiday. These crew members are supported in the ports we visit around the world by many organizations focused on crew welfare. Today, we were privileged to join other industry stakeholders to pay tribute to the resilience of seafarers in a practical way – by supporting the welfare work of The Mission to Seafarers - Sydney. CLIA Australasia Managing Director, Joel Katz, highlights in today’s Travel Bulletin that Australia's cruise industry, while currently experiencing strong passenger demand, faces a cautious future outlook. The enthusiasm of Australian cruisers and the economic benefits they bring are tempered by operational and regulatory challenges, which could impact future growth. Australia remains one of the most passionate cruise markets globally. In 2023, 1.25 million Australians embarked on an ocean cruise, and around 200,000 international visitors cruised in our region. This enthusiasm reflects a robust recovery, with Australians favouring close-to-home itineraries and contributing significantly to local economies. This broad economic contribution underscores the importance of cruise tourism in both metropolitan and regional areas, fostering growth and development. However, the industry faces significant challenges. Collaborative efforts between the government, industry stakeholders, and local communities are essential to create a sustainable and thriving cruise industry. Overall, Australia benefits greatly from cruise tourism, but the future growth of the industry will depend on successfully overcoming operational and regulatory hurdles to remain competitive in the global market. CLIA Australasia has announced the election of Carnival Senior Vice President and Country Manager Peter Little as its new Chairman in Australasia. Peter takes over from Norwegian Cruise Line APAC Vice President & Managing Director Ben Angell who has concluded his two-year term as the head of CLIA’s Australasian board. We are looking forward to working with Peter to provide important stewardship at a time when the resurgent cruise industry was working hard to cement its long-term success. Peter is a respected industry leader who has been integral to the strength of the Australian cruise sector for many years. He has shouldered responsibility for a very broad and complex range of maritime operations throughout his career and commands a great deal of admiration from across the cruise fraternity. In acknowledging the appointment, Peter said he was proud to step into the role of CLIA Chairman in Australasia at a time of enormous energy within the cruise industry. “It is an honour and a privilege to be appointed CLIA Australasia Chair. The role of CLIA is crucial to steering the industry’s path to the future. CLIA’s leadership and advocacy functions across the sector are vital to securing the benefits cruise tourism delivers across the economies of Australasia." We thank Ben for his dedication to CLIA over recent years and pay tribute to his work as Chairman during which he took a hands-on role in building the strength and membership of CLIA across this region. We are grateful for his guidance, and he will continue to play an important role in CLIA’s success into the future.
