About us

For generations, Ipswich has been a significant driver of Queensland’s economic prosperity. Ipswich is attracting unprecedented population growth accelerated by some of the largest master planned greenfield residential developments in the Southern Hemisphere. Rarely has an Australian city with such strong heritage and history experienced a social and economic evolution as rapid or profound as this. It is redefining the way the region operated, how the community is connected and how the city is positioned nationally. Council has an active role in influencing positive economic and workforce outcomes amid this extraordinary progress. A focus on skills development, priority industries, employment growth, export value, innovation, advocacy and collaboration is key. Our city is one of the fastest growing regions in Australia. As we embrace and harness this growth, we are making the most of ever opportunity. We are honing in on tomorrow’s jobs that match our can-do spirit, skills and strengths. We are making sure our connections are stronger than ever - with one another, with our neighbours and with the world. We are confident in who we are, where we are and what we have to offer. As Queensland’s oldest regional city we have never felt so young. Whether you’re a dreamer or a doer, we invite you to be a part of the charge that will propel our city towards prosperity. Together, we are turning ideas into action to become Australia’s most progressive, smart and connected city.

As one of the nation's fastest growing regions, it is crucial our infrastructure can meet the rapid growth. Through council's community-led We Can't Wait campaign, the highest priorities to secure funding for are: - The upgrade of the Amberley intersection to an interchange on the Cunningham Highway - A second inner-city bridge, the David Trumpy Bridge is too congested with over 40,000 vehicle movements a day - Public transport between Ipswich and Springfield Central This week, Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding took the We Can't Wait message to our nation's capital on behalf of Ipswich as part of the Council of Mayors South East Queensland's Canberra Delegation, meeting with government and opposition Federal members. 📷 Mayor Harding with Treasurer Jim Chalmers and Federal Opposition Leader Peter Dutton.

The revitalisation of Ipswich Central continues to be a key priority for council. Our city centre has a rich and vibrant cultural and arts scene, with a number of important assets and buildings located in our city centre. Council is now seeking community feedback on a preliminary concept design for renewing d’Arcy Doyle Place, as part of developing Ipswich’s Cultural Heart. The design is based on the first round of feedback received from the community during engagement in late 2023 to early 2024. 🔗 Find out more and have your say now in this next phase of rejuvenating Ipswich's city centre: 👉 https://loom.ly/jnT3eK4

Spending your Sunday mentally preparing for the week ahead? If the frustrations of the daily commute, congested roads and inadequate public transport come to mind, it's time to join your fellow residents in calling for our city's fair share in government investment. Visit www.WeCantWait.com.au and join the growing chorus of voices. Despite being one of the fastest-growing cities in the state, it’s clear that Ipswich is falling behind other areas in South East Queensland when it comes to funding for critical infrastructure. 🖤💛❤️ It has been a huge week so far celebrating First Nations cultures and peoples across our city as part of NAIDOC Week 2024. This year’s NAIDOC theme is Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud & Proud. The theme honours the enduring strength and vitality of First Nations culture – with fire a symbol of connection to Country, to each other, and to the rich tapestry of traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Whether attending the Ipswich NAIDOC Family and Cultural Celebration day, Kambu Health's inaugural NAIDOC Gala Ball, visiting the Strong Roots Rising exhibition at Ipswich Community Gallery, or many other celebrations and events right across the city, NAIDOC Week has brought Ipswich together to celebrate millennia of local history, resilience and culture. #NAIDOC2024 #NAIDOCWeek #BlakLoudProud 📷 Ipswich NAIDOC Family and Cultural Celebration held on 7 July 📷 Installation view, Strong Roots Rising by @samirachong at Ipswich Community Gallery. Ipswich, we can't wait any longer. Our city is at the epicentre of growth in South East Queensland, yet we aren't getting our fair share of funding from the State and Federal governments to meet our growing community's needs. It is time for action. Today, council launches a new, community-based campaign seeking urgent government funding to upgrade public transport and address major bottlenecks on our highways.  Visit www.WeCantWait.com.au to join the waitlist calling for crucial investment in Ipswich infrastructure.
