The Senate approved the Climate-related financial disclosures reporting Treasury Bill. The Bill will go back to the House of Representatives in September’s parliamentary sitting for a vote before it is final approved legislation. As the Government has a majority in the House, it is expected to pass the House without further amendment. https://lnkd.in/g-HNMRv9 Contact us to navigate your sustainability reporting journey

I was fortunate to start my career in the construction industry as an undergrad with a Tier 1 construction company which provided great exposure to the real world whilst completing my degree in Civil Engineering. I savoured the opportunity to observe and learn from the experienced site managers, asking plenty of questions along the way! I have since worked on several major civil infrastructure projects across Queensland and South Australia in the water, mining, transport, and defence sectors. I joined KPMG after 16 years in the construction industry as I was lured by the prospect of working on a diverse range of infrastructure projects to help clients solve project challenges, ideally before they hit the delivery stage onsite. Currently entrenched in the infrastructure team of a significant client project, I have certainly met that challenge and continue to work through an incredibly complex early infrastructure phase with the team. My best piece of advice to aspiring talent coming through the ranks is to seek out and say yes to opportunity and once you get to the point that you don’t have the capacity to say yes anymore, work hard, deliver well and then concentrate on finding an opportunity in the direction that interests you most, based on the diverse experience you will have gained along the way of saying yes! Choose your own adventure - you’re in the driving seat of your own destiny. And don’t be afraid - there will be people around you to lean on and learn from, and who will support you along the way. At university, I enjoyed applying my analytical mind in pursuit of my Law degree and developing my commercial and financial acumen through my Commerce degree. From the very beginning of my uni studies, I knew my ideal career would be one that would allow me to pursue my passion for both. I joined the KPMG Foundations program which was a one-day event where I learned more about the firm, the areas of work and the culture. I was then fast-tracked for an interview for the KPMG Vacationer program. My interview was for a career path I hadn’t previously considered as I was still early in my degree - Tax. At the end of the Vacationer program, I was directly offered a graduate role, which took the pressure off needing to secure a graduate role during my final year at uni - it was all sorted in the first semester! Tax has been such a great area to work in - it combines my degrees perfectly. From day one I've been involved in real client work, advising clients on a diverse range of tax issues. I get to apply my legal research skills and understanding of the law to write client advice. It's great to do this real work alongside a wonderful and friendly team who are more than happy to share their knowledge base and expertise with me. Applications for our Foundations program are currently open. Explore how you can grow with us here https://lnkd.in/gWQhuCzf And if you’re on the lookout for a graduate or vacationer role, our Tax program is still accepting applications – Check out our Careers page today.

When I decided to retire from my career as a professional mogul skier, I wasn't quite sure what to do. I'd been studying for my Bachelor of Communications (PR and Journalism) at Griffith University, and I spoke to my university coordinator for help finding a new road. Going into the discussion with her, I did some thinking about my strengths and what I enjoyed most in my degree. A strength of mine is problem solving, which I think comes from my time as an athlete where I had to focus on areas I could make an impact. My favourite subjects were crisis communication and organisational psychology. Her suggestion was to try consulting, so I could work on problem solving in these areas across different industries and with other specialisations.     That's exactly what's happened so far in my graduate year; I've already worked with several different clients and with other specialist teams at KPMG. It has been a great introduction into transformational change with a brilliant team who support me. We all bring different strengths and it really does feel like no matter what level you're at, you have an important part to play.     My advice to students who are thinking about where to next is to seek out people who already work in the area or areas you're interested in. Ask them targeted questions about their day-to-day - what's required, the challenges, the wins they've had and for examples. Those examples can help you see if their work is something that you can see yourself being excited by.  Explore where a graduate career at KPMG Australia could take you today at https://lnkd.in/guUj9xTu
