Our work on Binary Apartments, a residential complex located in Kelvin Grove Urban Village, developed in collaboration with Oracle Estates, is a xix-storey mixed-use building features one level of basement car parking and 38 apartments, including 28 one-bedroom and 10 two-bedroom units. Our team at McVeigh provided architecture, structural engineering, civil engineering, and development management services for this project. Key features of the design include private outdoor spaces for every unit, enhancing the connection between indoor and outdoor living areas. The design incorporates passive principles, such as natural light and ventilation through the central corridor and screening elements on balconies, to promote comfort and sustainability. The building's central entry terrace, flanked by private balconies, creates an active and inviting facade along Victoria Park Road. We’re proud to highlight our work on 17 Masters Street, a residential development in Newstead completed in partnership with McNab Construction. This $18 million project comprises a six-storey building with 5,800m² of residential space and one level of basement car parking. The development, built for the Brisbane Housing Commission, includes 95 units constructed with concrete and block materials. Each unit features a balcony, and there are several common areas designed for tenant use, promoting a sense of community within the complex. Our team provided both structural and civil engineering services for this project, ensuring the stability and durability of the building while optimising the use of space. The Coppabella Tavern and General Administration facility at Coppabella, Queensland, comprises two distinct architecturally inspired buildings. Our primary challenge was redefining the typical urban construction approach for a remote site, navigating the unique challenges and elevated costs associated with labour and materials in a resource-rich area. Our team successfully aligned with our client's vision by implementing cost-saving measures, notably by elevating floors 600mm above the existing building pad, eliminating earthworks and slabs on ground from the project scope. The floor design utilised a combination of structural steel and modularised floor joist units, prefabricated off-site and delivered finished with flooring. All services were suspended from the floor's underside, streamlining installation compared to trench embedding. As I mark my two-year anniversary as CEO of McVeigh Consultants, I reflect on a journey of steady growth and transformation. When I stepped into this role, my vision was clear: champion quality and excellent customer service; grow a company that values its people and listens to its clients. Luckily, I had a steady foundation to carry forward. Since, I started, we've doubled our staff, bringing in talented individuals who share our core values of care, integrity, collaboration, and reliability. Evolving McVeigh has involved meticulous analysis of feedback and performances to improve our processes and service quality and retain our clients' trust. During this time, balancing professional responsibilities with personal challenges, including my own major surgeries and my teenage daughter's move across the world, has deepened my empathy and drive. These moments have given me a different perspective on life and strengthened my commitment to creating an environment for everyone's success. I lead and manage a good team. Thinking globally while acting locally, we are delivering tailored solutions that resonate with our clients' unique needs. My decision-making and leadership blends intuition with competency, compassion and methodical planning. I speak and act from the heart. I pride myself on being authentic and pushing myself to never lose sight even when facing hard times. Through this, I have managed to recruit some of the best in the industry, those who follow, believe, and behave the same as me, to achieve rewarding results and remain resilient. I am the CEO. I am the Chief Everything Officer. From strategising for our company future, and making hard decisions, to helping keep the office clean, as CEO I embrace all responsibilities. I am not driven my job title; I am daughter, I am a mother, a wife, a sister, a friend; I have feelings and I enjoy adding my personal touches at work to show I care. I like to develop staff who are humble enough to listen, learn, and continually improve. Our future includes continuing our growth and diversifying our business lines, creating more opportunities for everyone. In our industry it’s about leaving a legacy. My late father always said that opportunities present themselves only once, and you must seize them. His strength and words guide me, driving my commitment to creating success. I am proud of our team's progress and excited for what the future holds. Overall, these past two years have taught me the importance of resilience, empathy, understanding, and the relentless pursuit of excellence. It's been crucial for me to honour McVeigh's 36-year legacy while driving change for the better. We're continuing not only Michael's legacy but also the physical infrastructure we help to build.
