Today marks the closing of My Care Planner, and I’m filled with a deep sense of gratitude for the incredible journey we’ve had over the past three years. I’m relieved that my team has found meaningful new roles with organisations that share their values, and that the many hundreds of our clients have smoothly transitioned to other quality providers of their choice. However, it’s difficult not to think about how much more we could have accomplished together if it weren’t for the ongoing NDIS price freezes. For now, I’ll be turning my focus to my family. Thank you for being a part of our story 💜 Caite Moch Rhiannon Pienaar Danni Bellamy Matthew Beard Hannah Ennis Emily Kirves Pat Maxwell Chantelle Kaesler Zoe Maule

This morning, Mark McBriarty and I met with Daniel White, Bill Shorten's Political Adviser, to discuss the closure of My Care Planner, the Minister's irresponsible remarks about the services provided by plan managers and support coordinators, and the pricing freeze affecting our sector. Instead of a meaningful discussion, we unfortunately encountered more political rhetoric about NDIS reforms, navigators, and the Minister's office "understanding our frustration." While I understand that the NDIA is an independent statutory agency, I find it hard to believe, and frankly concerning, that the Minister overseeing the Scheme has no weight in critical decisions like the Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits. We were told that NDIS reform and the future of navigators look promising, which is great, except for the fact that My Care Planner could not survive long enough to see this come to fruition, and that many quality providers are not likely to either. Lastly, when we asked how plan managers and support coordinators are supposed to earn the trust of participants and families when the Minister frequently describes us as "ticket clippers," "parasitic pen pushers", "paying for sex and drugs," and "spivs and shonks," we were told that he does say there are some good ones. That's a relief... I'm not sure what I hoped to achieve from today's meeting, but I left feeling more frustrated than ever by the lack of genuine understanding from the Minister's office. #NDIS Pic desc: Quotes from various news articles about plan managers, written in black text on a white background, including: "parasitic pen pushers," "dodgy outfits defrauding the NDIS," "spivs and shonks," "ticket clippers," and "up to 90 percent of plan managers are committing fraud."

Today I made the difficult decision to close my NDIS business My Care Planner on 31 August 2024, and I want to share with you the reasons behind it. Since establishing My Care Planner, we have faced immense challenges due to the government's decision to freeze Support Coordination (Level 2 and Level 3) and Plan Management pricing. Despite rising inflation, ongoing NDIS registration costs, increased superannuation contributions, and significant pressures from operating costs like insurance, software, rent, and utilities, I have strived to sustain our small business. The decision by the NDIA on Friday 28 June 2024 to keep prices fixed again is, in real terms, our third pay cut, and it has compounded financial stress beyond My Care Planner’s sustainability. While we could hyper-focus on high billable hours, undermine service quality, engage in highly conflicted service practices, and dismantle everything that makes My Care Planner a safe and welcoming place to work in and deal with, the reality of this freeze on pricing is that the NDIA is squeezing the life out of dedicated and high-quality small support coordination and plan management businesses like ours. The NDIA have forced my hand in giving two months’ notice to 9 of the most dedicated and hard-working employees I’ve ever had the pleasure of working alongside. Cutting corners, offering a wide and conflicting range of services and inflicting harsh billable hours on my staff would betray everything that has made My Care Planner a place we were all proud to be part of. Bill Shorten, I am without a doubt not alone in having to make this decision today. You say you’re not here to make NDIS businesses sustainable. Sustainability ensures high quality services are provided to PWD. It maintains a continuous and accessible support system for PWD. It helps businesses provide meaningful employment to people who are in this industry for the right reasons. It reflects a society’s commitment to equity, compassion, and the wellbeing of the sector and the people it serves. You have suffocated quality providers operating on thin margins and pushed providers like My Care Planner over the edge, while the “spivs and shonks” you are rallying against continue to line their pockets. To my team, Caite Moch Danni Bellamy Hannah Ennis Matthew Beard Emily Kirves Rhiannon Pienaar, Rupak, Ange, and Pat, thank you for your dedication and hard work. It has been an honour to work alongside each of you, and I am thankful for the time we have spent together. I only wish it could have been longer. To my industry colleagues, I wish you all the very best.
