Stronger leaders - More robust organisations - Empowered sector - Greater social impact

About us

The NonProfit Alliance (NPA) is a For Purpose organisation dedicated to building leadership capability within the Australian Non-profit sector. NPA offers two distinct leadership programs exclusively for the non-profit sector - The NPA Leadership Hub Program (for CEOs and Leadership Team Members) and the NPA Coaching Program (for Senior Managers and Aspiring Leaders). At the core of NPA’s success is the belief in developing stronger non-profit leaders, to help build more robust organisations, thereby creating a more empowered sector .. and ultimately greater social impact. NPA was established by Kelly, and her business partner, Carmel Molloy, two professional Australian women who have built their careers working for national and global non-profit organisations. The NPA Leadership programs provide a vibrant, sharing and mentoring professional network designed exclusively to meet the unique needs of non-profit executives. They have been developed by non-profit executives - for non-profit executives. The programs are for non-profit leaders who want to challenge their thinking and approach and who want to collaborate to help build leadership capability within the sector. Welcome to our August edition of NPA/FPA News & Views, where we bring you a curated selection of the most relevant articles for For-Purpose Leaders, highlighting key developments and insights in the sector. In this issue, we explore “How to Attract the Best to Your Organisation.” For many, work is about more than just a paycheck; it’s a source of daily motivation. The 2024 Pro Bono Australia Salary Survey provides an in-depth look into why staff choose to join or leave not-for-profits. Based on direct feedback from employees, this year’s results offer valuable insights for HR managers and leaders looking to understand and retain top talent. Additionally, the "Community Compass" report reveals diverse Australian attitudes toward the community sector, highlighting significant differences in perceptions and engagement. Surveying over 3,000 Australians, the study identified six distinct opinion segments. While most view the sector positively and are open to contributing more, varying beliefs about its role, funding, and political involvement suggest barriers and misconceptions that need addressing to boost community participation and support. ‘What Makes a Great Charity’? 😊 🏆📢 Here is what CARMEL MOLLOY of NonProfit Alliance had to say; So, what does being a “great charity” mean to me?     To me the greatest sign of a thriving and successful charitable organisation is in its leadership. Not just leadership at the upper echelons, but leadership that cascades through the very veins of your organisation, at every level, not just around the Board and/or management tables.      Whilst leadership at the CEO/Executive and Board level is ultimately responsible for defining the vision and purpose, and setting the strategic direction of your organisation, leadership needs to be evident – and implemented - at every level for a charity to realise it’s potential.    Truly great charity leaders model and nurture great leadership. They seek and find strengths and greatness in others. They create a leadership culture where staff members, beneficiaries, and stakeholders understand their worth and the valuable contribution they make to realising a social impact legacy that is far greater than any one person, or group of individuals, could achieve alone.     And collectively they make the world a better place.    Great leaders have a presence about them that embraces and embodies the purpose of the organisation they lead. They inspire others to do more, be more, and say more in a safe environment that values their thoughts, ideas, and achievements.    You may be one of the biggest names, the most financially successful; or longest standing charities in Australia, but how do your people feel and talk about working for - and with - your organisation?     It is within those words and sentiments, rather than your size and stature, where the question of true greatness will be answered. Today, we had the pleasure of welcoming 60 NPA Members and guests to hear Sandy Blackburn's insightful keynote session on "The Importance of Impact Measurement and Governance" which tackled a crucial challenge for many not-for-profit organisations: validating their impact on clients through data. Attendees had the opportunity to explore the complexities of impact measurement and gain valuable insights into asking the right questions to drive strategic decision-making. The session was a significant step forward in enhancing our collective approach to evaluating and demonstrating the impact of our work. Leanne Warner CARMEL MOLLOY Mark Spurr Gavin Coopey Kate Mills
