Did you know? Research indicates that early intervention Speech Pathology is one way to minimise the impacts of speech and language difficulties long term. To mark #speechpathologyweek2024 Speech Pathologist, Caitlin O’Meara sat down with the Today Show to share some tips to help parents and caregivers identify when a child may need to seek assessment and potential intervention from a Speech Pathologist. Many parents and caregivers often feel that because they can understand their child's language, their speech and communication are age-appropriate. Unfortunately, this can be an unreliable assessment of the child's development. If a child displays any of the following, you may choose to seek assessment: *Being understood by others who do not regularly interact with the child *Problems understanding concepts (eg. under, between) *Issues following multiple-step instructions *Voice issues (huskiness, breathiness) *Stuttering *Consistent problems with certain words or sounds *Reading and writing skills * Trouble swallowing or feeding #speechpathology #communicateyourway #physioinq
