  • 🌸 Women's Health Week (2-8 September) is a powerful reminder of the importance of standing together as a community to create safer, healthier lives for women affected by Domestic and Family Violence. Coercive control is a serious issue that can be difficult to recognise—it often starts subtly and escalates over time. This pattern of abusive behaviour can have a devastating impact on a person's health, wellbeing, and sense of safety. The Queensland Government’s new campaign, "See the patterns of coercive control" aims to raise awareness and understanding of this issue. By shedding light on different forms of abuse—like stalking, financial, psychological, or emotional abuse—the campaign empowers community members to recognise these harmful behaviours before they escalate. Head to the Queensland Government website to find resources on coercive control and the patterns of controlling behaviours: 👉 https://lnkd.in/g2RGmgdv #WomensHealthWeek24 #EndDV #CoerciveControl #CommunityAwareness #SupportWomen

  • 🌏 Celebrating diversity and advance life planning for the future! 🌏   Queensland is home to an increasingly diverse community, with our population reflecting cultures and languages from around the world.   This Multicultural Queensland Month, Queensland Public Trustee (QPT) and Multicultural Australia are coming together to discuss the growing diversity of Queensland and spreading the Will-making message.   Recent research by QPT shows that culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities are often less likely to discuss topics like Wills and end-of-life planning.   By working with Multicultural Australia, we aim to encourage newly arrived and long-established multicultural Queenslanders to plan their legacy in ways that are culturally safe and preferred and provide guidance that respects every culture. • 💜 Tomorrow is Wear It Purple day – which means it’s time to bust out your best purple threads and show support for our nation’s rainbow young people! 🌈💜   Why is WIPD so important? It's about showing LGBTQIA+ youth that they have the right to be proud of who they are, with the day striving to foster awareness and inclusion by establishing safe spaces for young individuals within our local community.   As a mark of acknowledgment to WIPD, we share Isabel's story, a transgender person living with an intellectual disability: 👉 https://lnkd.in/eCjGuq77 For more campaign info, or to donate to on-the-ground initiatives? 👉 https://lnkd.in/gy_nJtB

  • 📣 Let's talk about Enduring Powers of Attorney. What is it, and why do I need it?    An Enduring Power of Attorney (EPA) document allows you to appoint someone you trust to make decisions about personal (including health) matters and/or financial matters on your behalf.   Any person aged 18 and above can put this legal document in place to ensure that a trusted person look after you and your interests should anything happen to you.   Take REAL-WORLD example Michael.   Michael was 25, with a well-paid job, a mortgage and a car loan.   Following a work accident, Michael was in a coma for almost four months.   During the time Michael was incapacitated, the time spent working through access to accounts, permissions to enquire, and sometimes not knowing his wishes – meant that it was very difficult for his family to pay his bills, make mortgage payments and manage his finances.   Naming an Attorney would have enabled his family to deal with these important affairs more easily, leaving more time to focus on Michael and his health.   Fortunately, Michael has now made a full recovery and can once again manage his own personal and financial affairs. Head to our website to learn more about EPAs 👉 https://lnkd.in/gBAXG-X9 or download our factsheet Let's talk about Enduring Powers of Attorney👉 https://lnkd.in/gv4dBNjp *Name changed for privacy

  • 👴👵 Queensland Public Trustee attended the Cairns Positive Ageing Expo to share essential information on advance life planning to over 60's!   Our wonderful Cairns team were ready to answer questions about Wills, Enduring Powers of Attorney, financial services and much more. Held at the Cairns Performing Arts Centre, the Positive Ageing Expo was designed to connect seniors, their caregivers, and families with local businesses and service providers. This year, the expo attracted at least 400 community members.   🙏 Thank you to the Cairns community for stopping by, and we look forward to spotting our tote bags out in the wild!   #Seniors #expo #publicpurpose Cairns Regional Council

  • 🙌 QPT is here when support is needed. At times, individuals in our community need assistance with their financial affairs, especially when their decision-making capacity is impacted. There are four types of cognitive impairment that our financial management customers experience- intellectual disability, psychiatric illness, mental illness, and age-related illness. Providing additional external support for managing their finances can safeguard our customers from financial abuse. 👨 Meet Jim who suffered a traumatic brain injury due to an accident. As his financial administrator, Queensland Public Trustee (QPT) helped him overcome the debt he had incurred and can now manage most of his finances independently. 👀 Read Jim’s story here: 👉 https://lnkd.in/gGTcw97s

  • 💡 What is the QPT Structured Decision-Making Framework and how does it help our customers every day?   The Structured Decision-Making Framework was developed in collaboration with La Trobe University and is applied to our everyday practices to ensure customers’ views wishes and preferences are at the forefront of our decision-making, in consultation with their support networks.   We have adopted this framework across all of our service areas at Queensland Public Trustee.   Today we present Jack’s story to illustrate how the Structured Decision-Making Framework has helped determine the best outcome for his unique circumstances. 👉 https://lnkd.in/g2ePAgSq
