Where passions prosper.
About us
A contemporary, co-educational school, Pulteney Grammar School has proudly been shaping the lives of young women and men since 1847 with a vision towards preparing them for their future. Education at Pulteney takes many different shapes and forms. Our students are challenged to be curious, to ask questions, to seek understanding and develop an appreciation for our community, our country and our world. As global citizens, our students exercise their agency through their strong sense of purpose by venturing forth into their city and the world to develop confidence and insight, empathy and compassion. Our students learn through action: be it in the science lab, on the sporting field, in the recital hall, or amongst nature, a Pulteney education seeks to provide students with opportunities to engage with the breadth of what life holds. At 1000 students and located within the City of Adelaide, Pulteney is a welcoming, cosmopolitan and personable community where the interests and needs of each and every student are nurtured towards their becoming the best they can be. Ours is an intimate community, where we value relationships as the foundation of learning that provides opportunity for our staff and students to prosper in all their endeavours. Our teachers thus serve as both mentor and facilitator of learning, guiding students in their decision making and along the path to adulthood. Wellbeing is thus paramount to a Pulteney education; supportive and inclusive pastoral care a feature at every stage of schooling. The connection to Pulteney is one enjoyed well beyond the days of school: a Pulteney education is for life.

Last Friday marked the opening of the Rod James retrospective exhibition, 35 Years of Stories. The heartfelt evening was a fitting celebration of Rod’s deep-rooted love for art, family, the landscape and his unwavering support for his students across the decades. Rod’s impact was reflected in the breadth of Old Scholars, current families and staff – past and present – who celebrated the evening. The exhibition continues until 31 August.

Today we launched Semester 2 with a fantastic day of professional learning, where we deepened our whole school commitment to learner agency and quality thinking by using rapid design thinking to further create empowered learning environments for our students working with our University of South Australia Education Futures partners Maria Vieira and @simonleonard Deborah Devis A highlight of the day was our teachers facilitating Spotlight Sessions on #qualitythinking and #learneragency to share the wealth of teacher expertise that exists across our ELC-Year 12 academic staff. We are excited to celebrate our learning partnerships with both professional researchers and academics as well as the collaborative expertise spotlighted today via the lived and grounded knowledge held by our teachers as learning leaders. #learnercompass #qualitythinking #learneragency Katherine Adnett @suemavropoulos John McCall

As part of Reconciliation Week, Yorta Yorta descendant Scott Darlow gave a heartfelt presentation to our Year 12s, today. Scott is an Indigenous educator, and musician who spoke candidly about the historical bitterness towards Indigenous Australians, emphasising the importance of understanding and reconciliation. His key message is encapsulated in the acronym "FLUTE," which stands for Forgiveness, Love, Understanding, Tolerance, and Empathy. Scott clarified that his mission is not about holding resentment but is about truth-telling and education so we can walk together in reconciliation. As part of Pulteney’s commitment and support to the reconciliation process we invite children to wear a splash of orange, purple or black with their uniform on Monday 3 June. Children can wear ribbons/scrunchies in their hair, plain coloured socks, scarves or beanies.

Last week, Jarrod Johnson represented Pulteney Grammar at the 'Integrating AI in Education' Conference hosted by The Hatchery in Melbourne. Recognised as one of Australia’s most innovative schools, Pulteney was invited to showcase its use of AI as a dynamic learning tool. As a panelist, Jarrod introduced the School’s implementation of Leon Furze's Traffic Light system, which determines the appropriate use of AI and additional support for learning. This approach divides tasks into Research, Scaffolding, Creation and Review phases, with teachers adjusting the use of AI and other supports based on the learning objectives. This methodology ensures that students not only understand how AI can enhance their activities appropriately but also the importance of demonstrating independent work. In his role as Learning Designer for AI and Digital Pedagogy, Jarrod plays a crucial role in preparing both educators and students for the demands of the future workforce. Awesome work, Jarrod 👏 Louka Parry #AIineducation #QualityThinking #LearnerAgency
